I actually visited Brussels last month - I had been there before but somehow never had the waffles. Ended up at a place called Waffle Heritage where they make all the different types onsite and let you sample them. Sweet baby Jesus they were f##ing amazing.

I’ve visited cities all over the globe in my increasing years, but high on the list among my favorites, is Antwerp.
In the early 90’s, I had to attend a week long conference in Brussels to work on some international computer operating system standards. My team got bounced at the last minute out of our hotel as the the dignitaries forming the European Union needed the rooms. We were moved to a sister hotel in Antwerp, and promised free high speed limousine service to and from our meetings each day.
The first day, I was furious over the inconvenience, but each evening as I and my other young colleagues explored Antwerp after the day’s meetings, and then exchanged stories with colleagues at the meetings who were still staying in Brussels I began to fell we were the lucky ones.
I spent time in both cities afterward and love Brussels, (and Bruges, Ghent, Liège), but give me Antwerp any day.

Haven’t ever made it to Antwerp but loved Ghent and Bruges. Ghent felt like a mini Bruges but with its own unique charm.

My wife, son, and I arrived in Paris, France twenty years ago today for some vacation and to watch my favorite sport, and event, the Tour de France. My son and I stayed up late (given our jet lag) watching the Italians beat France in a penalty shootout, for the World Cup Final late in the evening. When the game was over you could hear a pin drop in Paris, except for the celebrations at a neighborhood Italian bar a block or two away from our room.
My son was 12, had adopted the French national team as his team in the world cup, and spent his allowance on a French National Team Kit which he wore most days on the trip.
The following day, instead of what I had planned for our first day in Paris, we attended a short welcome home parade on the Champs-Élysées followed by the team speaking to the crown from the balcony of the Hôtel de Crillon, located at the Place de la Concorde nearby.
That event, forced my son’s life long favorite sport of basketball to move permanently to second place. My wife, son, and I are all cheering for France for the remainder of this World Cup.
