What I’m watching

The Mrs. got me roped into watching the latest Yellowstone spinoff, “Dutton Ranch” where Rip Wheeler and Beth have their ranch in Montana wiped out by a wildfire, so they decide to move to Texas and buy another ranch, complete with wild hogs.

At first, it felt like punishment because the damn Diamondbacks games are blacked out in SLC. (Do they really expect anyone to drive / fly from SLC to PHX to watch the D-Backs?)

But since Ed Harris is in the cast as a crusty old Vet who is also a Vet, it looks somewhat interesting. Also in the cast is the actor who played Russ Langmore in Ozark… where he also dealt with a character of “impressive intensity” - Ruth Langmore - to go along with “Beth” of the Yellowstone family of series. (Those two together may be partially responsible for the declining marriage rates.)

Anyway, Ed Harris playing both types of Vets brings me back to this Ali-G gem:

Dutton Ranch is a worthy spinoff. Besides, my daughter loves the Beth character being the scariest one of the bunch.

For those of us who grew up in the He Man era, the new Masters of the Universe movie is an absolute blast.

Just finished episode 8. Patricia on Widows Bay is the best character on television.

Yes, that was probably my favorite episode of an already fabulous series. After watching, I turned to my wife and said, “Wow, that was the most cathartic horror “movie” moment that I’ve ever seen.”

Just watched “Pressure”. Highly, highly recommend.

i’m very excited, as tonight, my wife and I will be attending SL Acting Company’s always funny Summer Show.

This year’s show is entitled, the Gaslight Zone. If you’ve never been, the Summer Show is always a comedy, offered in a cabaret style setting.

I can’t wait!

My son and I watched “Disclosure Day” last weekend. As I expected, it was very entertaining, and had the Spielberg brand all over it. He wrote the story himself, and it clearly meant a lot to him because the movie tried to do too much, IMO. It was hard for the moviemakers even to fit everything into a 2.5 hour film.

I still recommend the movie, because it’s fun, albeit long. The ending is satisfying, and Emily Blunt should get an Oscar nomination. I knew she had acting chops , but in this one she shows much more than I thought she had. Notably, she does it all with a perfect American accent.

The plot is intricate, but it makes sense in the end. Be prepared to pay close attention to details, because a lot of key facts are hinted at only briefly. There’s also some old fashioned fairy-tale fantasy mixed in with a lot of science fiction.

Enjoy! One word of caution: Don’t start slurping a large soda very early in the movie. You may well have to miss some of the story while you take a restroom break.

So I have to have a memory to enjoy this film?

A short-term memory would do. Do your best to be sober and free from any substance that would impair your memory. Just for one evening.

speaking of Spielberg, I watched “Lincoln” a couple days ago. I’d forgotten how great that film was. Daniel Day Louis is an underrated actor. I wish he did more films.
