When physicians steal drugs from their hospitals it is a huge deal. They are suspended unless and until they complete a stiff rehab program approved and overseen by their state’s medical licensing board. Their license would be on probation and they would have to report regularly to a monitor approved by the licensing board and undergo random urine tests. A second offense will result in loss of their license. Their bosses (like Robby) would have very little to say about whether Langdon gets to practice. State regulators would be in charge and would be all over the matter.
But that’s not good TV! The battle between Robby and Langdon is better drama
I assume that Robby would be required by state law to report Langdon’s theft to the hospital on up, but it seems as though it did not happen here, since Santos tells Langdon she should have reported him and nobody in the ER seems to know about it. But Langdon did complete some sort of rehab.
Yeah. We all see this all the time. Most courtroom dramas are nothing like real law practice (“Law and Order,” for example), and the same goes for medical dramas. In most states Robby (and the hospital) would get in serious trouble for not reporting Langdon’s suspension.
I would love it for the experience the first few times, then I think you are right that I would find 95% boring from there.
That said, I do cosplay as an attorney at times. Because the Chairman of the company I own with him is an old-fashioned “dirt lawyer” (as he calls it) and because I have dealt with a megaton of professional services agreements and real estate transactions in my 25 years, he always jokes with me that I am almost ready to move on from 1L. I can actually do contract writing and review pretty quickly now, and I am excellent at developing service of process lists from a title report. So, I have that going for me.
After getting my PolySci degree, I did briefly (for one afternoon, LOL) consider going to law school. I might have been pretty good if I went forward with it.
The best thing I love in crim law shows–and you see it over and over again–are the scenes where the lawyer lets the cops interview his client in the interrogation room and just sits there next to his client. I cant imagine any lawyer letting his client do that.
We saw a project Hail Mary last night. Pretty sure the scene where Ryan Gosling touches his fingers through the barrier with Rocky is the close encounters theme. The same five notes that Richard Dreyfus played to contact the spaceship.
A guy came in with his service dog and the dog sat there the whole time just concentrating on the movie.
Afterwards I told the guy I was amazed your dog watched the movie like that.
He replied, me too especially because he hated the book.
Went on a Star Wars binge today. Two random observations:
The new “Maul” animated series is excellent so far. Sam Whitwer deserves a special acknowledgement for his incredible voice work as Darth Maul. He’s amazing.
“Rogue One” is the best Star Wars movie. But it really only works because literally everyone knows exactly what happens after.
I have to agree, the new Maul series is really good.
I think I have to agree with you on Rogue One, and for the same reason. As far as stand alone movies for Star Wars, it still has to be Star Wars, then Empire. You don’t need Star Wars to follow the story in Empire. The rest are ok to “WTF were you thinking?” to me.
Watching Andor, then Rogue One, then A New Hope in succession is great. Love the beginning of Empire (Hoth) but the Luke/Vader fight has always dragged on for me. Han’s rescue from Jabba is good as is moon of Endor in Return of the Jedi. Hoth then Endor could be a better movie haha. Obi-wan and Boba Fett were entertaining. Mandalorian was good - looking forward to the movie to close that out. Off shoots like Bad Batch and Skeleton Crew were fun. I wish the Acolyte had been better.
Haven’t been keeping up with new releases too well of late, but we just watched Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives-out Mystery last night on Netflix and thought it was fantastic. Clever writing and good casting with Daniel Craig (who I contend may have been the best 007), Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, and Josh Brolin.
I still need to catch up on Mandalorian Season 3 before the movie comes out. I’m super excited for that one, as it’ll be my kid’s first Star Wars movie in the theater. Will be even more excited when we get to see the original trilogy in 2027 (theater re-release for the 50th anniversary).
I’ll also note that 'Solo" is a very underrated and overcriticized film. It’s a ton of fun, the casting was perfect (Donald Glover as Lando, especially), and we all enjoyed it.
