Yes, I’m a video gaming nerd. Mythic Quest is great … Dead Pixels is a bit more raunchy and in the ilk of IT Crowd.
We watched a couple of movies tonight, Section 31, and Gladiator II.
I can see why Section 31 was not going to be released in the theaters. It wasn’t great. It was enjoyable, but in a Army of Darkness kind of way, but not as funny as Army of Darkness.
Gladiator II, ummm, not the worst historical fiction movie that I’ve seen, but far from the best. Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal were pretty good. Actually I would say Denzel Washington was very good, and Pedro was pretty good. Dude who played Lucius was too stiff, and tried too hard to be Russell Crowe Jr. Good thing this was historical fiction because world history would have been very different if this movie were an attempt to be history. There were just too many anachronisms in there, and it made my inner Roman history buff cringe.
HALO season 2.
Just finished Squid Game Season 2. I mostly enjoyed it, but thought it went too “hollywood blockbuster” towards the end (the big climactic scene is just flat-out bad). The new characters are great (even if a couple seem protected by plot armor) and they did a really great job building the relationships throughout. As in the first season, the games themselves are insanely tense.
Overall, I’d give it a B+
I think I must’ve been a teenage girl in a previous life given tonight is binge-watching “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” and being entertained by them. Yeah it’s Valentines Day and my wife and I are old. Don’t judge me.
We were talking at work and a colleague was ranting about how awful they thought Raising Arizona was. Everyone has their own taste, but I went out and bought the film. happy to have it in the permanent home library selection.
Yodel-Ay-Ee-Oooo!!!
At the barbershop getting a haircut for one of the Wonder Twins. Whatever ESPN variant they have on is currently showing the Rock Skipping National Championships.
The announcers are taking this all VERY seriously, which just adds to the hilarity of it all. And they just signed off with “It’s a great day to toss your rocks!”
In case you’re wondering, the world record skips is 88.
Next up: the national air guitar championship!
Sound like “The Ocho” is on. Since ESPN will be out of the MLB universe at the end of this season, and as the NFL, NHL, and MLS continue their full transition to streaming, ESPN will be irrelevant soon.
Long story short, having to explain to a younger coworker there was a MASH movie before the series, and how the characters got their nick names makes me want to pound my head on my desk.
You snot nosed little kids don’t deserve a cinematic masterpiece such as this. Sadly, I’ve joined the old farts club. 57 is old.
You’re still a punk! Just barely old enough to buy from the Senior Menu at Denny’s.
Pffft. That ain’t old.
I forgot to report back. These were really lame. Like, embarrassingly so. I’ve done far better air guitar sitting at my desk than these clowns.
It’s like none of them had actually been to a concert or seen a guitar played live before and were just doing a routine based on someone else describing it to them.
I was hoping it’d at least have comedic value, but it was just…stupid.
I stumbled upon this amazing live footage from an eagle’s nest 145 feet off the ground near Big Bear lake in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Underneath this, eagle are 3 baby chicks that hatched about a week ago. As of now, this bird has been covering the nest for well, over 24 hours, and her prior record was 62 straight hours in the last snowstorm when the eggs were just about to hatch.
That is awesome, and takes me back 55 years to when I was young and my brother robbed a sparrow hawk’s nest of two eggs, in Perry’s Hollow, above the City cemetery.
He hatched the eggs, raised the pair, adapted them back to the wild a released them (not sure how long we had them, but perhaps a year?).
A year later, he and a friend did the same with a pair of red tailed hawks.
The birds were all (sort of reluctant) members of the family, and I’ve been fascinated with birds of prey since.
My brother stopped this practice when he was caught by authorities trying to get a third pair. My police officer father, got him out of some serious trouble, after making him promise he would never do it again.
Did a Gene Hackman Triple Feature tonight
Enemy of the State
Crimson Tide, and
Get Shorty
It was a nice remembrance.
