What I’m watching

That “I am no man!” scene was awesome. Eowin was definitely not done dirty in those films. Miranda Otto :+1::+1:

I actually saw Sean Astin on Broadway play Santa in Elf the Musical. Better performance.

Flight home watched this 10/10 documentary:

Oh, I didn’t mind Sean Astin’s performance so much, it was more the way they characterized him in the script. He was far more whiny, avaricious and petulant in the films versus his persona in the books. In the books he was a stalwart friend to Frodo, and always above suspicion. In fact, he possesses the ring for a while in the third book (Return of the King), not by design but by necessity. He is never tempted by it and readily gives it back to Frodo at the first opportunity. In the films, they make it appear that he desires the ring, all in order to increase the melodrama. It’s a shame because Sam comes off as less of a hero than he is in the books.

Sam does offer to carry the ring (after Gollum tells Frodo he would) but only to ease Frodo’s burden, not because he wanted it for himself. And he does carry the ring for a while after Shelob’s attack, but gives it back to Frodo without question after finding him at Cirith Ungol.

I don’t recall a time in the films where it was hinted that Sam wanted the ring for himself.

I was dreading seeing Wicked today when Mrs SkinyUte told me she got tickets. I saw it on stage several years ago at Capitol Theater and didn’t like it at all, and I’m not crazy about either the general Wizard of Oz theme or the music. I was fully expecting to suffer through it today, and maybe catch a couple hour nap in the theater.

To my immense surprise, I ended up really enjoying it. The cast was fantastic, the visuals and choreography were excellent, and it was simply a very entertaining show. I read complaints that it was too long, but it didn’t feel that way to me. Quite the opposite actually, the time really flew by.

Also, I know absolutely nothing about either of the leads. I’d heard Ariana Grande’s name, but that’s it. They were both excellent in their roles.

Two completely unexpected thumbs up from me.

The recent Joker is a turd sandwich. That’s too nice. It’s worse than a turd sandwich.

I seem to be the only one that has watched this and I didn’t like it as much as I wanted to. I thought the resolution was dumb and obvious. When I say that, people are flabbergasted that I felt that way. Oh, well, art is in the mind of the beholder.

Though I will say that the cast was superb, Fiennes was excellent, but Tucci, OMG he was great!

Tucci’s Documentary “Searching for Italy” was an amazing foodie tour. I learned a lot about Italian cuisine and new cooking tricks for making some of my favorites from the show.

My kids want to watch that but the reviews were SO bad that I’ve skipped it. I like Simmons and Evans, but am kinda done with The Rock.

simmons and evans are fantastic as is the young blonde from Young Sheldon and the new Ghostbusters.

I liked it but it is total trash, smut, garbage script. Like House of Cards and Succession for Catholics.

Loved Inside Man. I think Clive Owen is fantastic. He seems to be selective in his roles.Children of Men was particularly vivid.
