Didn’t mean to open this can of worms by asking about how BYU had gotten so good. Didn’t realize they hadn’t played a true road game yet. On paper, it’s impressive that they’ve won by so many points just about every game. But playing on the road is quite different. Plus, they’ve haven’t even gotten into Big 12 play yet. It’s a long, long way off to suggest this is a team that will make a deep run in March. I hope it’s a good game on Saturday and that Utah brings a good defensive effort.

One thing is for sure and that is the need for as many Utah fans to show up and loudly support the Utes on Saturday. Don’t let the visiting Cougar supporters take the arena over like they have so many times in recent years. Giving the Running Utes a true home advantage will boost their confidence and can help lead to a victory.

I thought Utah probably had a 50/50 chance to beat BYU before last night. Utah was so poor defensively it makes me think that BYU will put up over 100. I went to the game last night. It is depressing to attend in person and remember the days when it was full or at least close to full every night.

I seem to recall a brief resurgence in attendance during the height of the Krysko years. When the Hunty is full, the atmosphere is absolutely electric. Might be a while before we get back to that.

There was a great atmosphere for a couple of the Arizona games in 2014-17.

Have also had some good turnouts for UCLA.
The students even turn out well for visits by the Bruins, despite not being old enough to know why us old timers want to cheer against them.

I worked with several zoobs back in the day. They were absolutely livid about that. Turned it into a home game for DePaul

One kid in our neighborhood was a huge UCLA fan (gets a pass on that as he grew up in Los Angeles before moving to Utah) and was livid about how unfair it was for the fans to cheer for DePaul. My thought was “well as fans they have a right to cheer for whoever they want”.

I don’t think that’s an outlandish statement. BYU has to play a full Big 12 schedule. Several losses are possible, and multiple losses are probable.

I guess we’ll find out. I don’t see byu finishing in the top half of the B12. Will that still be good enough to make the tournament? IDK, but neither do you.
Edit: I mean, you’re the one claiming byu could make an Elite 8 run. Between my statement and your statement, which one of us seems to have a better ‘clue’ about college basketball? I will buy you dinner anywhere you want if byu makes and Elite 8 this year.

Well, I had already cited the polling earlier in the thread, but right now, BYU is ranked #1 in the entire country right now by the NCAA in the Net Rankings. Net Rankings has taken the place of RPI and now is the primary tool used by the NCAA in their tournament seedings. So, when someone says they will be surprised if BYU makes the NCAA tournament, it just tells me they don’t know what they are talking about or are just being a troll.
