Utah Football 2025

I have mixed feelings about IW. Generally I agree that if you have so little regard for the team that you say you are transferring then you should go. I feel the same way about people at work who give their notice. There are of course exceptions but a pretty good rule of thumb is once someone breaks for the door there heart isn’t with you and having a yo-yo on staff hurts everyone’s morale.

Nate Johnson is a bit different because he went to the other side long enough to gain some actual perspective and if he comes back it would much more likely be because he wants to be here.

If IW left for BYU for a year THEN said ahhhh I understand now and want to return…then I’d feel the same way.

I’m happy IW is coming back. It looked like he had a lot of potential. I don’t blame him for the offense’s struggles, Micah Bernard couldn’t carry the offense by himself. If JJ hadn’t transferred last year the run game would have been much better and IW wouldn’t have had all that pressure placed on him.

In regards to Isaac Wilson, my gut tells me that he sat down with the offensive coordinator and discussed what the play style will be like. I’m guessing that he liked what he heard and decided to stay. I think he kneejerked went into the portal after Ludwig.

Well going over to Deseret.com … that’s exactly what happened. Appears the new offense is very close to what he ran in High School.

I think you may be correct on Wilson. Hopefully he’s not a spoiled kid, as per reports about locker room stuff, and wants to do better.

They had a pretty good discussion about the locker room issues yesterday that generally summed things up well.

When your team is losing, everyone’s angry and little things get blown out of proportion. When your team is winning, it’s easy to manage the little things and the room controls itself.

That makes the most sense. If Cam stayed healthy so IW was just playing mop-up in a few games, nobody would have noticed if IW had an ego. When the offense struggles everyone, from the fans to the team is going to blame the QB.

I’m reminded what Mike Wilson said about comparing his two sons. He said Isaac was a bit more chill about things, didn’t ruminate when he made a mistake.

Everything I’ve read about Jason Beck is he’s pretty adaptive, adjusts his scheme to the personnel. Sounds like the right approach in the Portal era.

It will be an adjustment in going against other coordinators who really know what they’re doing, but… I’m remain cautiously optimistic.

Welcome to Utah!

Really excited about this one! I know Tulsa didn’t set the world on fire this year, but to put up those numbers in 7 games is pretty good!

A great question. Lots of people seem to be assuming there was no interest. Is there any evidence one way or the other?

And another CB commits:

No, I’m just assuming.

It’s a logical assumption or theory. Just wondering. I don’t blame him for his 2024 performance but it sure looked like he wasn’t ready for prime time. It seems sIgnificant to me that the Utah coaching staff was willing to spend time with him to convince him to return, and that they welcomed him back with open arms.

That’s not on him. That’s on the coaching staff, particularly Ludwig.

The recent article about Ludwig, featuring Bryson Barnes and other former quarterbacks, highlighted the sheer complexity of Ludwig’s offense.

They said 1.5 years was really the minimum time in the system before a QB could function.

The “introduction” to the offense Ludwig sent guys was 50 pages……

I think it’s pretty safe to say Ludwig didn’t adapt to the changing landscape well.

Thanks for pointing that out. I certainly did not mean to say it was Isaac’s fault that he wasn’t ready.

Hopefully not a sign and send. Anyone know?

I hope Beck uses the TEs like Ludwig did. Some of our OCs never seemed to use the TEs very often. When Kuithe was healthy, along with Kincaid, the offense really clicked.

When everyone running a passing route is a potential target, it keeps defenses more honest. When only a few of the route runners are viable targets, defenses can cheat and double the guys most likely to catch a pass. Of course this assumes a QB who can throw a catchable ball through a small window.

The last two seasons defenses got to cheat a lot on our offense. Hopefully that will change next season.
