HS Recruiting Class in same range as previous 6 or 7 classes. Pretty impressive given the questions about Whit, the terrible offense, the lack of an OC on signing day.
Portal losses of depth.
Now we wait and see what the portal will bring.

Steve Bartle saying Cam is done. Hopefully that opens the door for some dual threat QBs in the portal.

I know the new OC doesn’t run the kind of offense that Rose is used to, but…

I read that Beck is bringing Koy Detmer Jr. with him to Utah as an offensive analyst, possibly as QB coach. That’s … interesting.

Whitt laid out a pretty ambitious portal bar a few weeks ago - “about 40 players”. This was in the same presser he said analysts think Oregon spends about $30M in NIL.

Question - of the $22M for salaries for all of athletics in '25-26, how much should go to FB? What is the overall revenue picture, from what sports? Minimum salary for all athletes, elevated for FB & other higher revenue sports?

My hunch is player salaries will depend on the NIL money, the two will go hand in hand in recruiting. It won’t be even… it can’t be.

FB, Gymnastics, both BBs, softball, V-ball… then it trails off from there. The ski team may not need either salaries or NIL.

Good points. Just a small FYI, almost all of the ski team members are international students on special student visas that prohibit normal NIL compensation. I’m assuming any “salary” would also be prohibited.

CFB is going to be weird until they get the compensation situation sorted. Right now the only rule in play is the golden rule - he who has and makes the gold makes the rules.

Purdue was a Bottom 10 team and the kid only got 2 starts, and one was an overtime loss to Illini’s? His numbers didn’t suck in that game. He might be a good get.

No thanks on Sluka. He bailed on his team three games into the season. I like the UNM kid, but the 12 interceptions are a concern. Devin Brown hasn’t lived up to his five-star billing, but maybe he hasn’t had much of a chance.

Rev share/salary might be one piece, then NIL stacked on that (esp. for FB/BB, sponsorships, ‘true NIL’ endorsements, etc.).

It was also expected to clean house a little because the roster is going from 120 w/ 85 on scholarship to 105, all on scholarship. Between that, the season we had, etc., I would expect a lot of churn. Our HS recruiting class was 24, so replacing 40 between graduations and transfers seems about right.

I think we are also finally seeing the final impacts of the extra covid year (sans Bowman and Rising who can play an 8th year, but that’s with medical exemptions built in).

Deion cleaned house, but basically twice. Last year (and this year to some extent), their HS recruiting class is on the smaller side and it’s more about portal transfers. Some work out, others don’t, so they ship those that didn’t.

I agree on Sluka. If you look at his stats, he runs for a lot of yards but doesn’t have a very good arm. We need a runner and a passer.

Stay or go I just want something official…the last two years have been all speculation and I’m burned out on it.

Appears and sugggest are words I’d like stricken from all future Cam articles…

This is a complaint about reporting not about AbsoluteUte posting it.

Now Cam Calhoun in the portal, purportedly because he’s been offered twice the amount of NIL money somewhere else.

I was all for NIL in its concept of reasonable compensation for use of actual name, image, and likeness, but now the crap with no rules poaching of players and insane amounts of money with no real commitment back from them is making me think about giving up watching any of it more and more.
