I thought he had impressed coaches at one point. Must have dropped in the pecking order
its insane to think someone can commit in December finish Spring ball and not be satisfied with where they are on the depth chart and enter the portal in the Spring.
At what point will they start to allow players to transfer during the season. For example Utah loses a player to injury game 1, sees a good replacement at Colorado State and gets that player and he’s playing game 3.
Why think about the process taking several games? Trade a player at halftime, credits to be determined at a later date, or transferred to a third school. Are they even still taking classes at this point?
Before all this insanity if a player didn’t like their position in the pecking order they either worked harder to move up the chart, or had “the talk” with their family and figured out what was really important here.
Given the lottery level odds of making it in the pros, working the system to get the degree paid for while still participating with the team is not a bad trade off.
NIL changed everything.
Used to be a student athlete can work hard on the field/court, become skilled enough to go pro and make $$$$ (for the relatively short term), and/or study hard to earn a degree and make $$$ for a company (for the long term). Now they already make $$$$ and are often looking to see what other school might let them make $$$$$$$ for a few years. Often have little thought about their long term future.
paying for potential, which as we all know often doesn’t pan out
I fear for their futures.
Sly did an interview with Kump near the end of spring ball and referred to him as Utah’s starting center. Don’t know if that means anything with regard to the transfer.
Why is it when I see Deion saying “All is Well” I picture Kevin Bacon screaming the same thing, only to get run over by the frightened mob?
I appreciate CU acting as an “upper limit” of sorts on the toxins of NIL within a program.
(There is the sons issue, too, and - let’s say - the “offensive absurdity” of Shadeur owning a Rolls, etc.)
Perfect equality doesn’t exist anywhere, of course, but when things become too unequal… look out!!.
Chase Kennedy (?) is apparently moving on from Utah.
I hadn’t ever heard his name, but best of luck to him.

Oh I heard his name, particularly when he got burned on the edge for a long run. He saw the field last season but it was clear he had some developing to do.
We apparently had a QB named Steve Smedly on the roster, who is now transfering.
The more you know…

Losing the sixth-string QB is probably just fine.
So walkons going to the portal.
We also had a QB named Macloud “Gunner” Crowton who came to the U just for Spring ball then hit the portal.
I’m with @Greginslc here. Not quite sure just how ‘walk-ons in the portal’ is a thing.
