Why? Martinez fits Utah’s tough-minded mentality and the Utes’ scheme. Ja’Quinden Jackson transferred out of the program, but Utah still has Jaylon Glover as a faster, change-of-pace back. Martinez could be the thunder to Glover’s lightning and be a focal point for a Big 12 favorite and College Football Playoff contender in 2024.
Any relation to the doofus Gary Crowton? Man, I wish BYU never had fired him.
Yeah it’s his kid. Apparently he had a pretty decent couple years at the JC level.
Walking on, having a cup of coffee, then hitting the Transfer Portal doesn’t seem like it counts for much. Kinda like transferring in for Spring ball, then going back into the portal.

John Canzano covered the Martinez situation, recently. He made $400K at Oregon State last year. (The interesting thing is their collective pays their clients quarterly, to avoid paying a kid a lot of money and then having them jump to the portal. Pretty smart idea, IMO)
With Oregon State’s situation, Utah would be a logical choice, we’ve done well with RBs… Booker, Moss, etc.
The big unknowns are what will be Martinez’ NIL for this year, what Utah’s budget is, how he might fit into existing NIL commitments, etc.
Trying to figure out the recruiting landscape and who will end up where is like shooting in the dark.
I read somewhere that Martinez’s supposed market value is around a million. To your point, that’s a lot to throw at one guy and I don’t know where it fits into Utah’s budget/ strategy for RB. I do think they could use another experienced RB from the portal.
Looks like Utah is in the running for Peny Boone, one of the top RBs in the portal.
Having come out of the MAC, Boone’s probably cheaper than others.
