The official "What are you listening to right now?" thread

Speaking of Kiss and attending concerts, my Buddy and I attended the Kiss concert at the Salt Palace in 1988, but only to see the opening act. We left after Anthrax finished their set, we had no interest in seeing those headlining dinosaurs, especially without the cool make-up.

Went to a bunch of concerts back in the day. Would never dream of going to see KISS, but I understand millions love them. When the Olympics opening act featured KISS we almost fell out of our chairs. I mean, what was the purpose of that?

Anyway, taste notwithstanding, went to about a dozen Dead shows - in various incarnations. The one thing I will say about them, is the fact they never play the same set. So it’s fun to string a couple nights together which will be distinctly different performances.
I also think their music is well crafted and very well reperesented by other talented musicians.
I’m a sucker for ballads. I love sad songs. Grateful Dead wrote some amazingly sad and poignant ballads. I think Joan interprets sad-Jerry-ballads as well as anyone. We also saw her 2 or 3 times and recommend to all.

Anthrax is amazing. Craziest moshpit I’ve ever been in was during a Anthrax show. Absolutely bonkers.

Their show with Public Enemy (with Primus opening) back in 1990 (91, maybe?) was my first real metal show. My buddy even managed to swing backstage passes and they let us three dorky 16-year-olds come in and drink a beer with them.

I’ve run into both Joey (singer) and Scott (guitar) a couple times since, and they’re always super nice. Just really awesome dudes.

I don’t remember anyone posting a Jefferson Airplane song. Great memories of sitting in the Huddle before class, with my coffee and cigarette, and this tune playing on the jukebox.

When KISS played the Olympics I recall that one of their members, could have been the lead dude, was wearing a shirt that showed his belly, which was hanging out in a disgusting manner.

Fortunately saw the Grateful Dead one time, about 6 months before Jerry Garcia died.

Once to start the ski day I boarded Alta’s Sunnyside lift, the young pretty attendant was playing The Beatles Abbey Road, the last run of the day cruising down to The Goldminer’s Lodge they were playing The Grateful Dead, making me think, could this place be any more perfect.

After the Rose Bowl I asked some Ohio State fans what Hang on Sloopy had to do with Ohio State, they couldn’t answer. Likewise. Alright Now by Free is a great song, but what does it have to do with Stanford? Hell, anybody can steal/adopt a catchy tune and claim it as theirs.

I like em’ all. Seem like decent, people and dedicated artists. I like Grace Slick and I like her paintings too.

Technically my first concert ever. Mom and dad took me when I was about 10. That said, I still love John Denver to this day.

They were fantastic. Opened up for Bauhaus and Nine Inch Nails in 2006 and damn near stole the entire show.

None of us had ever heard of them before, but immediately went out and bought their album the next day.

Here’s Peter Murphy, Reznor, and TVotR doing “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” from that show. It was amazing.

I was pretty young whey they were in their hey day, but always loved everything they did. My favorite thing about the band though was the follow-on group of Hot Tuna, that Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady formed in the late 60’s, and which is still active today. I saw them in Park City a couple of years ago. They are no spring chickens but they can really play.

This is a REALLY early recording of just the two of them…

Album announced and the first video is out. Finally, some Indigenous/Native country music getting out to the masses:

The album is produced by Shooter Jennings. Waylon’s son has become a great producer.

Oh wow, I haven’t heard that one in probably 15 years. Such a great song, thanks for the reminder.

Driving to work this morning, I couldn’t help but have this song go through my head, as the moon filled a good percentage of the western horizon.
