Actually, most of the lands footprint of the current University and Research Park were granted to us by the Federal Government after they essentially vacated Ft. Douglas. It got bigger when the DOD finished the transfer just before the 2002 Olympics.
Yes, but Land Grant College/University is a specific term of art, that would in Utah refer to Utah State. The University of Utah is not a Land Grant University under the way that term is used.
Definition accepted. I withdraw the argument.
That sums up my memories of Jim Fassel. No defense.
Correct, but David P. Gardner and his successors certainly worked a fantastic deal with the feds to get all that land for the Research Park and everything that used to be Fort Douglas around the hospital, the dorms, and everything else. It really catapulted the University forward into the great possibilities that it has fulfilled since that timeāand is now fulfilling.
Unquestionably and agreed without argument. However, use of the term Land Grant University to refer to the University of Utah is incorrect and shall result in a warrant being issued and your Rose Bowl tickets garnisheed.
Going thru the list was interesting. There are so many schools that I didnāt realize were land grant schools, such as Univ of Wyoming, or Ohio State. I knew that most that have Tech or A&M in the name were land grants, Just an interesting list IMO. Thx for posting it.
Any Fletch reference, no matter how obscure, will get a star from me.
I plead innocent. I made no such use of the term. Case dismissed. @Greginslc did use the term, but he was speaking metaphorically. Iāll get the charges against him dropped.
Well, scored some overpriced tickets via SeatGeek as a backup plan in case Iām not able to get any through the Ute ticket office. If I do, then I should be able to (in theory) either return these (it says up to Dec 29) or resell them.
Anyone think that the talk of Ohio St.'s receiving corp doesnāt get CP3 going? That was a huge recruiting win for us (edit: he de-committed from OSU and signed with us). Iām sure he wants to prove himself in this game.
Utah was dead-last in the nation in total defense twice during his tenure: 1986 and 1989. 1989 was worse. Utah also led the nation in total offense in 1988. I honestly donāt think Fassel paid attention to the defense or worried about recruiting and developing players to fill those positions.
Didnāt he originally commit to OSU?
Yep.
I think that is beyond dispute.
Yes, as I recall, Fassel actively switched players defense to offense. Usually, college coaches are trying to convince offensive players to switch to defense because the best athletes in high school get put at the skill positions, and the skill positions are more glamourous. But Fassel hated defense.
Ohio getting a new DC after the Rose Bowl.
I canāt wait for Fassel to coach the 2022 Rose Bowl⦠Someone want to start a Fassel thread?
