The 2022 Rose Bowl (!) Thread

He’s a sports talk radio show host in Dayton. Not just a random fan. Good. Makes it more likely his ideas will penetrate the Buckeye locker room.

Nobody listens to Sportstalk radio from shows in Dayton. Cincinnati is the sticks that penetrate the market. I used to work in radio up there. He’s talking to his mom and dad basically. Also, Buckeye fans are the worst. They have won two titles in 50 years but act like they win 2 titles every 5.

Last time I was at the Rose Bowl was at the 1994 World Cup and 1000s of us parked on the golf course. (Didn’t need a reservation to do so, I just followed the signs when I was close to the stadium).

Dude was absolutely eviscerated by the Twittersphere yesterday. One of the “better” opponents he named was barely bowl eligible, and one was taken to the woodshed twice by Utah. He’s either a troll or a complete and total amateur.

why not both

Oh man, I hope that goes on the bulletin board with the team. Love how the team with a chip on its shoulder.

Why not both troll and amateur? Regardless, I hope that Whit shows this to the team, and uses it as motivation. This is the same crap I heard on sports radio when we move to NC in 2012 about our Utes. Fortunately I stopped listening to sports radio, my life became less stressful.

When the final second ticks off of the scoreboard, and tOSU losses, and how they lost sinks in, the tune will change. That’s my belief. That’s my prediction.

Utah has its hands full and may very well lose this game. But I would be surprised if it’s not closely contested. I don’t believe OSU isn’t just going to waltz in there and coast to a victory. Whit and co. will be highly, highly motivated and will put together an excellent game plan.

I’m just hoping that the attitude that small-town talkshow host expresses will find its way into the heads of four or five Ohio State first string players. The offensive line is a good place for that to happen. Maybe the defensive backfield, or even their quarterback.

Ohio (don’t use the other three words) is not good on defense. The key to their winning rests on the shoulders of Rancho Cucamonga’s C.J. Stroud.

Our defense seemed to be very ball consciences lately. I hope to see our D literally swimming through their line with decimating sacks.

You are talking about an Ohio state university?

Well, we saw where that sort of attitude got Alabama… Ojala that the Buckeyes 9aka Horse Chestnuts) have the same dismissive attitude.

Utah and Ohio State have next to no history, so this game should be interesting. I’m sure most Ohio St. fans, players, and even the coaches know little to nothing about this Utah team and more so the history of the Utah program.

The two teams have met only once, and it was a laugher to say the least. I remember the game pretty well. It was Utah’s second game of what ended up being a dreadful 1986 campaign, Jim Fassel’s second. Heading into that season, the outlook was optimistic. Utah had gone 8-4 in 1985 (the equivalent of going undefeated by today’s standards; the program was in the dumps) and returned a lot of key players. Some publications picked Utah to win the WAC. But Utah lost the opener to eventual conference champion San Diego St. Then, in Columbus, the Buckeyes drilled Utah 64-6. It was as ugly as it looks. OSU had 715 yards of offense, the most Utah had ever given up (and still the second-most in program history).

Utah ended up going 2-9 that year and had, statistically the worse defense in the country. OSU went 10-3. A few interesting tidbits about that game, though. On the sidelines for Ohio St. that day was a young grad assistant named Urban Meyer. And on the Utah squad was third-string quarterback Scott Mitchell, a true freshman who redshirted that forgettable season. Ute freshman receiver Darren Hughes set a team record that day for most kickoff return yardage in a game (193 and since broken a couple of times). He was kicked off the team the next year after legal problems involving drugs.

Just Ohio or Bucks.

Let’s go hand them the beat down they richly deserve and send the message to the CFP a little ‘ole public land grant college west of the Missouri River should have been playing in a playoff for the National Championship. The reason being there wasn’t a slot in a four-team playoff system available for a 3 loss team from the Conference of Cannibals - even after winning the conference championship. The 2021 Utah Utes are the reason the playoffs need to be expanded.

Baylor could make a similar argument.

Pitt - ditto.

Question - will the powers that be have the brass to make the change to make the playoff more inclusive?

nay, that’s reserved for UofM fans. Others who do that seem small and bandwagon

Disrespect is reserved for Michigan men. That seems counterintuitive

This is me being pedantic but Utah is not a land grant university. That would be Utah State.
