NCAA Tournament

Yes. It’s such a relief to have them gone.

Another thing.

Does anybody know why they changed the schedule this year? In previous years the first two rounds were Thursday-Sunday. This year is Friday-Monday. And is this just for this year, or for the foreseeable future?

Well, that was a great first round. Lots of upsets, including a rare 15-2 upset. BYU loses. Pac-12 teams win. And Abilene Christian beats Texas when a 50% FT shooter nails two at the end to take a 1 point lead.

College basketball with all its problems can still deliver in march.

This is absolutely true.

It is beyond dumb that the games in November and December are weighed more heavily than the games in Jan, Feb, and March. College basketball should start with conference games and should make one week each month a crossover event featuring OOC games. Mix those OOC games into the season.

Covid. Pushed it back a day so they could test and if a team had a positive test before Tuesday they could be replaced

Which is why Utah struggled this year. 10 of their 13 losses came against NCAA Tournament teams, only one of which was against BYU. That’s a murders’ row schedule, which is the reason I’ve been so defensive about the Runnin’ Utes and so intolerant of criticism. It angers me when other teams get a pass for playing a ridiculously difficult schedule, but not the Utes. It’s not fair and it’s a ridiculous double standard. Neither of BYU nor Utah State would have had a record good enough to make the NCAA Tournament either had they played Utah’s schedule this year.

This is true. All three teams had two wins against tournament teams:

USU beat SDSU twice (2-3 overall vs tournament teams)
BYU beat SDSU and USU (2-4)
Utah beat USC and Colorado (2-9)

The seeding of BYU remains a mystery.

The problem is that we had many more losses against tournament teams. We also had a few bad losses, which BYU and USU did not have. And, of course, BYU whooped us head to head.

Still, Utah would have finished third in the WCC this season and probably in the 3-5 range in the MWC. That would have been enough to be on the bubble at least.

Watching Illinois vs Loyola. Apparently “Cockburn” is pronounced “Coburn”.

Poor coaching.

The Big 10 is getting exposed. They had 9 teams in and only 4 remain (still have to play this round) and it wouldn’t surprise me a great deal if they all lost.

So much for the “pundits” declaring that the Big 10 is by far the best conference.

This is another argument for more interdivisional play throughout the season. We all know how much a team changes from November to March.

Bob Huggins has certainly adapted well to West Virginia. It’s easy to picture him after the tournament dressed in coveralls, no shirt, sitting in a folding chair on his porch, shotgun across his lap, making sure people honor the “Keep the Hell Off My Yard” sign he made from plywood and a can of red spray paint.

He’s got too many teeth.

not sure a folding chair could hold up, but the rest is spot on
