Or the Ta-hoe people coming over from California?

It’s the way their laws are written.

Prostitution is only legal in certain counties in Nevada.

I’d say it’s frowned upon and generally discouraged. I’ve known members who do it just as a lark. I’ve known a few who were problem gamblers. From the all-knowing ChatGPT:

  • The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) classifies Gambling Disorder in the same section as Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders.

It must be frowned upon enough to have the church come out in full force against a bill to allow parimutuel betting on horse races in central Utah 30 or so years ago. The horse owners in Utah were upset that Wyoming was cashing in while we could have had that revenue stay in state. What I remember is that every bishop from every pulpit was decrying the evils of gambling. One of my co-workers said, “I was for it until the bishop told me how horrible gambling was and that organized crime would get all the money”. I kid you not.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has changed with the times.

CU and K State fighting for that bottom spot.

Houston looks better than expected.

CU looks quite a bit worse.

K-State looks surprisingly horrid.

UCLA looks awful again.

This really tempers my positive feelings. We are going to need a few more games to really gage where we are.

The comments I read on ESPN about the bRuins getting to look forward to playing to a half empty Rose Bowl may have been optimistic. At this point, my guess is they have hit the “Screw it! Let’s worry about beating U$C” stage of their season.

Colorado’s offense didn’t look great. Their defense was hot garbage.

Houston is playing better than last season, but needs a road test. Their defense gave up too many chunk plays for their coach to feel comfortable about it

K State is waiting for their QB to perform a miracle because that run game is a mess.

Tonight is a night for missing Loboman because he would be all over the fact they are Beating the bRuins.

I’d like to give an extra star for the LoboMan reference; I saw the UCLA score and thought the same thing. Here’s a fitting photo repost for the LoboMan memory:

Colorad9 is more than welcome to it, especially if they can take THEM down with them.

As for KSU, they seem so up and down year to year.

I watched most of the Iowa State / K-State game in Dublin. First games are often wonky - in various ways - but that game was really competitive. The two programs’ paths really separated from that first game.

And sometimes the ball just bounces funny.

In spite of our QB situation last year, our team fought hard in every game, could have easily been 8-4. But we had a 7 game slide… and even after a bowl game was a non-option, we kept fighting. That is pretty remarkable. You don’t hear players this year talking about how the offense or the D crapped the bed. They kept a high level of competitive integrity all the way to the end.

When a team starts to really sag competitively, it’s really obvious. I haven’t watched K-State after the first game, so I can’t say exactly what their problem is. Just saying football teams are complex beasts.

From the athletic. Just a snip.

The toned-down Deion Sanders experience

Colorado lost at Houston last night, 36-20. The Buffaloes produced back-to-back touchdown drives of 93 and 88 yards in the second quarter, but their offense otherwise had a whole lot of nothing while the defense let the Cougars move the ball efficiently. Deion Sanders’ team fell to 1-2 and looks more like a bottom-of-the-Big 12 team than a contender.

Among other things, the Colorado teams of the past few seasons were college football’s best magnet for casuals. If you liked CFB but weren’t a diehard, there’s a good chance Colorado became a touchpoint for the sport. In the first three weeks of the 2023 season, Colorado drew 25 million viewers, the most in the sport. Boulder was a destination. The TV audiences got a good deal smaller last year, but Colorado was still a big story with Deion coaching, Shedeur Sanders quarterbacking and Travis Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy.

This year is different. Shedeur, the Browns’ No. 3 QB, gets more national attention than Colorado altogether. Hunter is a Jaguar. If a casual fan wants to tune into college football to see how a famous guy is doing as a head coach, Bill Belichick might be the first choice.

Not to overstate things — plenty of people are still watching Colorado. The program is still newsy. Deion’s health struggles in the offseason were an object of speculation. It was a big story when we learned the good news that he was cancer-free after having his bladder removed. The Buffs have had one of the more controversial QB battles of the year, with third-stringer Ryan Staub pulling ahead (at least briefly) of prized freshman Julian Lewis and Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter. Deion calls Staub “Martin Luther Staub” because the young QB had a dream that he would one day be Colorado’s starter.

Still, Colorado feels dialed down. The Buffs are playing games in semi-big TV spots but not being billed as a game of the week. They may not be horrible, but sub-.500 is a possibility. So I had to ask The Athletic senior writer David Ubben, who’s covered this program extensively: Is Colorado normal now?

:speech_balloon: No, because they’re still the first program — excluding Notre Dame and BYU — freed from the chains of geography. I recently moved to Charlotte, and at the grocery store was a middle-aged man wearing a Shedeur Sanders Colorado jersey. Black America’s embrace of Colorado football is unlike anything we’ve ever seen in the sport and will sustain much of the interest in this team post-Shedeur and Hunter.

So no, it’s not normal. And Deion sparks a reaction in people no other coach in the sport does. The average Joe doesn’t just know Deion Sanders. They have an opinion about him. The conversations around the program will grow in volume if the Buffaloes flirt with a playoff berth or go on a lengthy losing streak. The relevance may never reach the levels we saw in September 2023, but I definitely don’t think this is a program that’s anything close to “normal.”

All fair points by my pal David. There is a bit less of a media circus around Colorado these days, but no program with Deion at the helm can ever be regular. Can this one ever be great, though?[quote=“LAUte, post:94, topic:9669, full:true”]

With all the “Off the Board” games played this weekend, the Big 12 pretty much got ignored by the degenerate gamblers.

Wow, Ok State is bad.

I’m not sure what’s happened in Stillwater? Mike Gundy’s had two losing seasons in 20 years. He was 4-7 his first year and then 3-9 last year. He’s had several 10 game winning seasons. The only thing I can think of is that their program took a dip in talent by not having Texas and OU in conference?
