Baylor Game Thread

To the talking heads whining about PI.

Scoreboard.

That is all.

Good to know that site is still kickin’. Having so many active Utah sites is a pretty good reflection of fan interest and engagement. Don’t see that with every P5.

And the Dunce Cap to Ludwig for for that needless, momentum killing switching of QBs.

Folks on that forum consider this site a joke.

If I were a 12 year old, I wouldn’t want to hang out with adults either.

Utehub improved once they got rid of politics. Steer clear of the nutty politics here and this site is okay too. There’s room for both.

Most of them haven’t been here in years. It’s rather funny to watch them claim UFN is still 100% politics without realizing that the politics category is turned off by default and you actively have to opt into it here to even see it.

I’m on both sites and am glad they both exist, but I much prefer UFN’s format and community.

That really stinks.

Hopefully we will get all the bugs out next week and get ready for UCLA. It’s a moral imperative we drop an L on them as a going away present.

There’s definitely something to getting into a rhythm, and swapping QBs doesn’t help that, obviously. No argument, there.

I was talking with a former Ute DB after the game about the QBs and how the game unfolded.

He said to him it looked like Baylor had each QB scouted, and would alter their scheme & alignment a little based on what they expected from each QB (tendencies, plays run by each QB). It looked like Baylor’s D got a little lazy and weren’t making the adjustment / alignment change to Nate when he came in, and then he started getting some success and got into a rhythm… and we scored 2 TDs in the 4th.

I’m not trying to defend the practice of rotating QBs, just thought this was an insightful observation, and I’m guessing was part of Lud’s gameplan to get the D out of sorts.

Nate took a big step, today. But if he was our starter from here on out, I think it would be reasonable that he’d have more steps to make, as opposing defenses throw different pitches at him. When you see a really talented, seasoned QB that makes it all look easy - Cam Rising - it’s really something to watch.

As impressive as their Texas HS Gatorade POY QB was, he threw 2 enormous picks - one to Vaughn, the backbreaker to Bishop.

It’s not as easy as it looks.

Something I think is worth noting…

When the crawlers at the bottom of the screen come on with the Utah score, the ones that I’ve seen always say “QB Rising DNP”. It may make no difference to those who vote for the top 25, but it may make some of the “pundits” say “oh, well that makes sense that they aren’t winning big”. I think that maybe, possibly, we might be getting some respect, but who knows…

Just finished watching the game, hurray for dvr. Well, it wasn’t pretty, but the team is 2-0. I’m glad that the team plays Weber next week for a chance to work some kinks out before the conference run starts.

I read @Ma-ake’s quick blurb on a chat with a former DB. That was interesting. I suppose I would have stuck with Nate once we saw Bryson wasn’t playing well. But I’m not a coach, just a fan watching the game from my couch.

Glad we got the win. Hopefully next week is a W too.

FWIW, CU looks pretty good. Perhaps Deion is a good coach. Guess we’ll find out over time.

I think the Utah brand is known for grinding it out, a little meager on style points. Most of the voters probably take that into consideration.

That was a real character builder win, Baylor was seriously motivated.

Assuming we get the W next week, the first quarter of the most difficult schedule we’ve ever had is in the books.

Impressive.

I think it’s right that once it became apparent the offense was struggling with production, go with Nate, see what he can do. But there may have been a little bit of a boost via scheme.

An interesting combination of what we see, what was apparent, and some of the Xs and Os that are sometimes harder to pick up.

To me there were several passes where Bryson and the receiver weren’t on the same page in terms of where the ball should be placed. (Also, there were some misses & overthrows)

One of the cool things about high level CFB is the game is simultaneously straight forward, and pretty intricate, schematically.

I was most impressed that we took it to them in the 2nd half, where in the first half they were a team possessed. Underneath all the schematics and game planning and analytics, it’s a game of heart.

Utehub is hot garbage compared to UF.N.

And, we have about 3 decades of defensive adjustments at half time (since the early Whittingham years) that in the early season make the first and second half seem like night and day.

I expected this to be a close game, in the first half, but that the defense would adjust to what they hadn’t seen in the first game. My fear, was that we would not have enough offense overall. It took until the last 5 minutes for that fear to go away.

Football games should not be played when the temperature is in the triple digits. We’ll see more of this in the Big 12.

I took a look at the Sicem365 site to scan their game thread. Pregame they were pessimistic, then encouraged by the first half, then gradually nervous and then dread - the other side of the coin.

But a few of them noted their D wilted under the heat, when in the first half they looked forward to the heat closing the door on us.

I could not agree more. I visited every PAC12 city for an away game during our time in the league, save the AZ schools, for that reason alone.

(I have been to Phoenix for a game, the 2005 Fiesta Bowl, but New Year’s day is obviously a bit different, than even the season finale.)

Yep, particularly in extremely humid places like Texas. I’ve always maintained that games this time of year in locations like that should all be played in the evening. The networks, of course, disagree.

This is one of just many concerns with joining that league. BTW, so much for the supposed upside of “playing in packed stadiums”. Anybody see that debacle?

I know it’s our best/only option right now but God, I really, really hope the Big12 era is short-lived.
