I’m giving you a star for “post most simular to an amicus brief”
Thanks. I must admit that analysis was mostly a snip from the Athletic. I might’ve messed up the link.
So is Peoples National Champion sort of like winning the NIT?
I was mainly pointing to Baer’s t-shirt. I don’t know if the proper response is laughter or pity.
It’s more like embarrassing and pathetic whining.
I assume those are made by the bowl, not by the school. Guessing there’s several crates of “Georgia Tech: The People’s Champs” on their way to Africa as we speak.
Good point, @SkinyUte. That’s probably what happened. It still should be embarrassing for level headed BYU fans. I wonder if Dick Harmon will take the slogan and run with it?
Yeah, either way it’s pretty pathetic. I’ll tip my hat to TDS and give the Zoobs credit for a very good season. They were resilient and continually found ways to win. But we saw twice what happens when BYU plays an elite team. Indiana and Ohio St would beat TDS by 35.
Well, it isn’t any kind of national championship, not even the Alien National Championship for Alpha Centauri. Though, that may be where some Y’ers have their heads.
I only acknowledge one people’s champion

It’s a way for the grandchildren of the blue-hairs to pick up next year’s Christmas present at Macey’s… without the threat of Bo Schembechler denigrating the accomplishment on national TV.
We have to remember in 1982 the New Mexico Lobos went 10-1 and didn’t even get a sniff of a bowl game. Tulsa also went 10-1 and got snubbed. They ended up getting satirized by a radio station in Tulsa as “playing in the 1982 “Justice Bowl.”
As Oprah’s talk show hadn’t begun airing yet, we can’t claim her as a catalyst for the proliferation of bowl games to the point of ridiculous based on this particular game. She’s still a suspect in the proliferation, though. ![]()
SEC is now 2-5 in bowl games (including CFP). And one of those wins was guaranteed as you had two SEC teams playing each other. (And yes, it was also guaranteed a loss).
Edit to add: And the other SEC win was against Tulane.
They didn’t want to be there.
And now Southern Cal just lost. What a good day. And the Big 12 is undefeated in bowl games so far beating an ACC team, a Big 10 team, and an SEC team.
That’s a shame
I hope nobody bet the under on the Sun Bowl.
Well, that was unsatisfying.
Teams who got a bye are now 0-5 in the CFP. That’s an insane stat.
I really didn’t think Miami had a chance. Hell of a defensive effort.
I’d like to see what the Red Raiders are gonna do against the Ducks. Looks like a beautiful day to play.
