2023 WBB Discussion

I am the same. In looking at the replays, I thought she may have turned an ankle. OK, time for next player up.

By the way, also news today, Utah WBB now #11 moving up one spot.

Utah plays South Carolina on December 10 at the Mohegan Sun casino arena where the Connecticut Sun WNBA teams plays. They will also play Saint Joseph’s in Philadelphia on December 7 on the way to Connecticut. Losing your best shooter before having to play the #1 team in the nation can never be good.

Edited to say the game in Connecticut is part of the 2023 Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase which features three games that Sunday… Noon (EST) Florida State (#20) vs UCLA (#2); 2:30pm South Carolina (#1) vs Utah (#11), and 5:00pm UConn (#17) vs North Carolina (#24).

  1. South Carolina
  2. UCLA
  3. North Carolina State
  4. Iowa
  5. Texas
  6. USC
  7. LSU
  8. Colorado
  9. Stanford
  10. Baylor
  11. Utah
  12. Ohio State
  13. Kansas State
  14. Notre Dame
  15. Virginia Tech
  16. Indiana
  17. UConn
  18. Louisville
  19. Marquette
  20. Florida State
  21. Washington State
  22. Creighton
  23. Gonzaga
  24. North Carolina
  25. Penn State

To be in this game at all, we’ll really need Palmer back and healthy.

Son of a gun…poor Gianna.

The worst place for an athlete to get injured. Hard to heal and even harder to full recover from.

I feel for the kid.

Looks like the Utes had a real nice game against St. Josephs who were undefeated A-10 team (now no longer undefeated).

In reviewing the boxscore and recap, it looks like Pili had a huge game. She scored 31 pts on 12-17 shooting 3-4 from three-land in only 27 minutes. But, the main thing I looked was how Dasia, Lani, and Matyson did. Matyson played 22 minutes and scored 9, while Lani played 16 largely empty minutes and didn’t score. Kennady needs to shoot more, only 6 shots in 32 minutes.

Coach Roberts was quoted about missing Kneepkens. She said… We don’t have [Gianna] Kneepkens so we’re trying to figure out where we’ll get our plays from. I think it’s going to take some time, we still need to figure out how to be aggressive on the perimeter and score and I’ve got to do a good job of putting them in a chance for success.

Based on the box score I can see that hasn’t happened yet.

Well it’s their first game without her so I’d expect it to still be a work in progress.

They’re also still missing Palmer, with no real time table for her return.

I am here at the game and our Utes playing tough. Jenna is doing everything she can against the giant on SC. She is outweighed by about 50 lbs.

McQueen and Wilke just can’t seem to develop any consistency. Without Gianna, some semblance of help would be nice.

Pili played all but 7 minutes and scored 37 pts, but that traveling call late was brutal. She should have kicked it out. Somebody, anybody needs to stand up

They’re just not the same without Gianna.

Hope they keep Vieira at the point and Palmer at the 2. Haven’t seen anyone keep up with Vieiras quicks yet.

I have been calling Viera a little “water bug” – so quick. She’s improved a lot since last year. Now, if she can consistently hit her outside shots – doesn’t need many – her contribution goes up another level.

Truth. You lose an all-american candidate in any sport and it won’t be the same. Note Cam and Brandts absence for example.

With all the injuries across all our sports, I believe Jonson and Johnson’s Band Aids ought to be giving us a paid sponsorship.

Really had hoped McQueen would be more consistent this year. Hopeful she’ll get there soon. She is in too much of a hurry sometimes.

I don’t think she looks for her shot enough and is passive offensively.

BTW, let’s not forget we essentially lost a game by 5 points (two garbage baskets at the end for SC) to the #1 team in the nation without our two best guards. Jenna got beat up guarding those bigs for SC and did an oustanding job.

Just not enough offense from the rest of the team. At the end, Kennady and Alissa were the only “shooters” on the floor while down a few points late in the 4th.

So close, change a couple of bounces, and that is a win.
