Name escapes me but one of them on a Natty (with a Division 2 team) about 20 years ago.
Brett Elliot?
Ah, right. He threw for a bunch of yards at Linfield College. But he transferred because he lost his job to Alex Smith. Seems to have worked out for everyone.
My point is that it’s not like Utah is recruiting world-beater QB’s who struggle here due to our coaching ineptitude, but then go flourish at another school.
Most of these guys flounder at Utah…then go continue to flounder at 3-4 other schools during their college careers.
Them not developing into productive starters isn’t somehow a uniquely Utah problem.
Im hearing Wilson was the toxic POS in the locker room. Let hiim and his mother go without an option to return.
Indeed he was the one. Left as he would have been behind an eventual #1 draft pick. (which certainly is unlikely at the moment)
If true, then with a fresh start the team and program may flourish.
At the BYU game the guy in front of us said the players were behind Rose being the guy for a while. Now, if Rose had teammate support it makes one wonder why, after a good showing until he got hurt, why he’d leave.
Maybe it’s because of the Cam drama, which I can see causing more angst that it’s worth in having Cam back. I’m sorry, but this smacks of Bluto Blutarski moaning, “Seven years of college down the drain.”
it appears that several offensive players waited to see who the OC was before entering the portal. I can see players transferring out based on their perceived fit of the new OC"s scheme.
I wish Lobo man still posted so we could get insight on Becks offense and some New Mexico chiles knowledge
Also, insights on Shiny Rocks
…and how to keep your spinners clean on the El Camino.
Thank you! Love what he did for the team in 2021 and 2022. He had some legendary performances. But it’s well past time to hang it up. In hindsight, he should have done so after the Rose Bowl in January 2023.
Utah will need two or three QBs from the portal. Dampier from UNM and the kid from Tulane might be options. Washington State’s QB and Ohio State’s backup, Devin Brown (ironically Isaac Wilson’s predecessor at Corner Canyon) are probably longshots.
Possibly a “how much do you want me?” situation.
Bernard went in the portal, then came back, to be our best player on offense… (in a dismal year, granted.)
It can never be said enough, Micah Bernard is a warrior and a true Ute. What he did for the program in the Rose Bowl, his play this year where he constantly got dinged, and coming back when he could have gone. One of my favorites.
Wasn’t Bernard’s portal excursion driven in part by Tavion Thomas being a diva and disruption? When Thomas slinked off into nowhere Bernard came back.
I think so - TT left the team in Nov of 22 and MB entered the portal Jan 23. I think there was some fallout from all of that, but then enough of the toxicity was gone that I think the leadership council either convinced him or accepted him coming back. Of course, then he got in the scooter accident and his '23 season was gone. He’s a true Ute warrior. I hope his 1k season lands him a spot in the late rounds or as an UDFA.
I’m with you. What Micah Bernard demonstrated as a tough, team-first guy is something I won’t forget. He’s the kind of player others should model themselves after.
I don’t know what the NIL situation was this last year, but if Micah Bernard got bumpkis it would be a serious injustice.
Hopefully through all of this the staff is getting more precise about allocating money & keeping a lid on morale issues. My hunch is eventually there will be kick-backs going on within the team.
“Hey Isaac - how hard do you want us to block for you? NFL QBs using buy their OL nice gifts. Just saying.”
NFL QB’s still buy their O Linemen stuff to keep them happy.
