What streaming service for 2025 season?

Since we never turn on the TV other than to watch football, we finally cut the Comcast cord earlier this year. So now I find myself in need of a streaming service to watch games during the season. Seems like Fubo, Youtube TV, or Sling are the best options, and they all seem to offer pretty much the same services and channels. Is there one that’s appreciably better than the others? What say you UFN’ers?

Also, damn streaming is expensive now. I remember looking at it as an option a few years ago and it was like $40-50. Now the cheapest option with any sports package is $80-85.

Do you have Disney +?

I do and I understand that there’s an ESPN add on that’s not terribly expensive.

I read the other day that some (many?) of the B12 games will be on TBS/TNT this year though, so maybe having ESPN only isn’t the best option?

If you add the espn full sub, you will get espn+.

Seems unclear if ESPN+ includes TNT/TBS. There is apparently some sort of sublicensing agreement in place, but it doesn’t say if one is included with the other.

On a related note, I hate streaming.

I love streaming…I’m watching a Naked and Afraid marathon right now. There are some amazingly resourceful people out there. There are also some bat ■■■■ crazy people out there. Courtesy of Disney+

I have Sling and a digital antennae for local channels. They seem to offer flexibility at a reasonable price of $46/Mo. I have the orange package which gives me ESPN 1,2, and 3. 3 normally shows games being broadcast on the ABC network. The package also includes TNT, TBS, and most of the cable news programming and several movie channels. If a game I want is on one of the FS network channels i can switch to their blue package online and then switch back later at no additional cost.

Edit Should also add at various times i have had Peacock, Paramount, Prime, and Apple when I get coerced into binge watching one of their shows. Highly recommend Landman with Billy Bob Thornton. Currently sharing a Netflix account with one of my kids.

I definitely have the antennae for over the air channels - some games are on Fox. I think ESPN just launched (like yesterday) ESPN Unlimited for $30/mo. ESPN has been the hardest part to get, so I’ve done Sling before. Youtube TV has a split screen where you can watch 4 games at once. But, to me, it’s almost just like the new cable (and price).

  • We have the Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ combo. Started lower, but now it’s ~$30/mo but paying with my AMEX Blue, I get a $10 credit/mo for some reason.
** just was looking and have to do more research, but there might be a Hulu/Disney+/ESPN unlimited bundle with ads for $30/mo for the 1st 12 months. Hmm, this might be tempting.
  • I have Netflix w/ ads for $7.99/mo
  • We have Walmart+ and that comes with Paramount+ (dropped Prime recently to try it out, so don’t get Amazon Prime Video for now)
  • We’ve had AppleTV+ for some shows but put it on hold for a while. Were paying $7.99/mo, but went to $9.99 and as of Thu just jumped to $12.99/mo. Jerks. Gotta pay for F1 movie somehow.
  • I use my sister’s HBO Max occasionally

We end up cycling in and out of different services as we (me, wife, family) finish up all the content we want or the shows’ season ends. They’ve gotten better about rolling shows out week by week and then waiting to release the other favorite shows so you stay on, but we don’t really need 5 services and keeping up with all the shows that seem interesting.

Sports has been the challenge for streaming, but maybe with the ESPN standalone, it will get a little better. I was all for cord-cutting and a la carte, but adding it all up isn’t much less than cable or dish was. Bundling helps in a few areas, but ESPN used to charge cable companies $5/person and that was by far the most expensive channel. Now, a la carte is $30 …

ESPN+ is a must have for me to watch most Ute sports (being 2000 miles away), and with the recent change for ESPN, yesterday, I got the bundle of ESPN (ads)/Hulu/Disney for 17 bucks ($16.99). If you go to $30 that is the premium tier with no ads. Since I got the basic tier, when I turned on to watch the soccer game, they had two minutes of ads before loading the game, and a block of ads at halftime. Wasn’t that bad at all.

With HBO Max, you get the TNT/TBS stuff. For Fox, best of luck!!

Just to be clear, it doesn’t. As I said, HBO Max takes care of that.

We’re going back to youtube tv for the season, then cancel it in late December or early January. In the past we’ve used Sling, it had issues with digitizing or locking up, but that may have changed.

If there was an option for just the Big XII or our Utes, I’d go that route. Going back to YT tv because of the number of potential games on Fox.

We’ve become a FUBO family. So far we’ve been able to watch all the Utah sports gate thar we wanted to watch.

Each week my sister and I have to research game times, networks and channels to figure out how my dad is going to watch Utah sports and if he has the correct sports package in his assisted living facility. It’s become a nightmare.

Im going with the new ESPN Unlimited or whatever its called. It didn’t add a ton to my bill. Last year, we had 0 games on fs1 or fs2. I know we have the wyoming game on cbs sports network and its possible we could have one or more on fs or the turner channels, but I am willing to save the money and just listen on the radio those days.

As a side note, ESPN+ is probably my favorite part of being in the Big 12. I was able to watch the overwhelming majority of Volleyball, Soccer, Mens and Womens basketball, baseball and softball last year with it.
