What I’m watching

Just got back from “Godzilla Minus One” and it was amazing. No wimpy good-guy American Godzilla there and a Kaiju movie that had me in tears a couple of times?!?! No way.

A Christmas adjacent movie better than Die Hard:

A movie that could go all the way…like Sharknado.

Payback with Mel Gibson. A noir revenge film with some great bad guy characters including Kris Kristofferson, James Coburn, and Lucy Liu.

This is one of my favorites, but it has been impossible to find, streaming or on DVD, until recently on Amazon prime.

Great ending.

I just watched Zero Dark Thirty for the second time. I think it is an outstanding film with great performances by the actors, most notably Jessica Chastain. It was a tough watch in the sense that I really think it accurately demonstrated the brutality of war. Considering the current conflict in Gaza it hit a little close to home. Fantastic movie though.

Binged watched the newer “Sniper” movies today. They were pretty much mindless gratuitous violence and sexual innuendo. Totally funny for turning off the brain for the day. :joy:

Thought this was brilliantly produced, riveting acting with engaging dialogue and stunning cinematography.

“Leave the World Behind” is terrible. If you’re going to do a message movie make the message clear and tell a story with a beginning, middle and end, and characters that develop. Ultimately, whoever wrote the screenplay was trying to say too much and whatever they wanted to say got lost.

Is it bad that I watched it a couple of weeks ago and still had to look up the plot when you mentioned it?

It was an extended time rip off of a Night Gallery/Twilight Zone episode where our “creature comforts” got knocked out and we all started killing one another.

Great Family film

Oh yeah, plot. I forgot about that. So did the filmmakers. No, it’s not bad, just sad. Even if I do want those two hours of my life back.

Just got back from The Boys in the Boat. I loved the book, and they did a very good job of cinematizing it. (Is that a word?)

Of course it doesn’t go into the detail of the book, but does a good job of telling the story, developing the main characters, and reflecting the circumstances of the period (1935-36, depression area and rise of the Nazis)

I highly recommend whether you have read the book or not. My wife hasn’t read the book and loved it.

We saw that last week as well. While I didn’t like the music very much, it was a good show and the kids all loved it.

I didn’t mind it. I actually loved the whole use of the cast as well. Keegan Michael Key and Mr. Bean were great.

This is a movie I will have to sit with for a while. The use of all elements were near perfection. It’s a true look at the ‘the banality of evil’ and how everyone chooses to be complicit while evil happens and we benefit from it. Also how Rudolph Hoss was able to shake off the thoughts of his evilness for the task he was given for National Socialism.

This movie is amazing but disturbing:

It’s amazing how the audio lets you know the evil is there the whole time.

Watched this yesterday. It was pretty damned kind to the Gators and Urb.

That stated, if you look through the fluff you find out just how out of control the stakes are in the $EC for teams to win it all dynasty fashion. Some schools in the B1G, BIG 12, ACC, and the PAC 12 roll the same way.

And we wonder why we see the level of crazy expectations. The worst part? There still - even in a 12 team playoff system isn’t a meaningful way to determine contenders and a National Champion of the FBS level.

My favorite version as well. Of note the composer of the engaging songs couldn’t play a note. He actually sang or hummed the tunes to a composer who wrote out the music for the score. Thank ya very much!

I’m watching “Spotlight”. I haven’t seen it in years and just think so highly of Michael Keaton. I was so glad to see his resurgence.
