What I’m watching

I watched the parade in person instead of TV today.

Did you sleep on the street last night to get a good spot?

Nah. I have a hotel I book right by Bryant Park. Woke up at 6am and walked to my spot. There are people who do that but most everything is a balloon so you look up. If you are in the first 4-5 rows of standing when the parade goes by you can see everything on the street.

Officially starting to get into the holiday spirit, because it ain’t Christmastime until I see Hans Gruber fall off the Nakatomi Tower.

I always say, “What is your favorite Christmas movie and why is it Diehard”?

I chose Die Hard for three reasons.

  1. The movie setting is at a Christmas Party.

  2. Bruce Willis likes to claim it isn’t a Christmas movie.

  3. It triggers both my daughter and my wife who have to argue it.

It’s that time of year for holiday joy!

I prolly already posted this, but I think it’s comedy gold with all the trimmings of holiday stress.

As I am a hockey fan, my friend and I attended nearly every game during the Olympics (some overlapped, so I couldn’t see them all). We had four tickets to the gold medal game of Canada vs. USA (my friend is Canadian). He cried when they played O’ Canada after taking the gold.

I sold the other two tickets for $2,000. Each.

I met The Great One (Wayne Gretzky for you heathens who do not love hockey) and a bunch of Canadian players.

@orangemarlin. This came out a few years ago. Perhaps you have already seen it. Shows the “other side” of hockey. Truly an excellent ethnography. There’s a feature on Wayne’s brother who played briefly for the team.

If you are looking for a completely over the top, raunchy, mindless show that will make you laugh your ■■■ off…

This could become a cult classic.

Rewatching Altered Carbon for the third time.

While the second season was meh, the first season is some of the best sci-fi I’ve ever seen.

I really enjoy that one about every 5 years. I think it is kind of a Christmas movie. The fate of Hans Gruber is to me the most satisfying ending of any action movie ever.

“Scrooge,” a musical version of Dickens’ masterpiece starring Albert Finney, is lots of fun and heartwarming as can be. If you’re a Dickens fan and a fan of “A Christmas Carol” as literature, it’s even better. Finney, at age 34, does an amazing job of playing a mean-spirited, cynical man who is in his 70s or 80s. Alec Guinness plays Marley’s Ghost brilliantly. The music is good too. Very light fare, but a nice boost during the holidays.
