Utah vs ISU

Why did the line go from Utah -11.5 to Utah -7.5?

That’s a huge jump !! a 2 or 3 point swing is eyebrow raising, 4 points makes one think Lane Kiffin is involved somehow.

Who knows? Maybe we get up 28-0 and send their fans to the tailgate never to return….again.

I loathe AI but here you go.

The point spread for the upcoming Utah vs. Iowa State game shifted rapidly from an opening line of Utah -11.5 down to -7.5 (and around -8 at major sportsbooks like BetMGM) primarily due to heavy early sharp money backing Iowa State combined with potential injury concerns surrounding key Utah players. [1, 2, 3]

Key Factors Behind the Line Movement

  • Heavy Early Action: The game opened with Utah as a double-digit favorite on the road in Ames, but sharp bettors and the public quickly jumped on the underdog, forcing oddsmakers to drop the number to mitigate liability.

  • Injury Speculation: Speculation regarding player health—notably lingering concerns or visible limping from key contributors during Utah’s previous outings—contributed to market caution on the large initial spread.

  • Market Correction: Iowa State enters with strong momentum against the spread (beating expectations early in the season), making a Jack Trice Stadium road environment a tough spot for Utah to lay double digits. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Their new coach Jimmy Rogers was at South Dakota State for 12 years, led the Jackrabbits to a national title in 2023, then was at Wazzu for a year, now Iowa State.

He’s 33-9 the past 3 years - 2 at SDSU and 1 at Wazzu (where he took them to a bowl game last year.)

He can coach, and the Cyclones have overperformed the first three games.

Does anyone have a clue if we have any significant injuries? I don’t remember any.

The only thing I saw was Parker getting up a little gingerly after a hard tackle and limping a little. But he came back in and looked fine, then we started subbing more, since the game was in hand. Soon thereafter Bray had his long TD run.

I guess we will see an availability report on Wednesday or Thursday

-11.5 was crazy to begin with.

Scalley said in his presser there were no injuries.

Almost a different dialect of English, it’s interesting to listen to guys on the team talk football, especially in this context. The language is very compact and efficient, the terms have specific meaning, repetition drives home a point in the culture, like “owning your 20 square feet”. These guys are wound tight.

It’s a glimpse into the quick react brain you have to have playing this game, like the short quips when you’re playing hoops. Coach Inoke is clearly uncomfortable with public speaking, but he oozes credibility.

Reynolds is the most natural switching into regular English for the camera, also cool hearing his take on the talented freshman Polu.

To the point about Parker and possible injury, at the 2:56 mark in the interview he jogs out, looks fine.

Rather than worrying about a bunch of false flag reports and finding out whose AI is manipulating a betting line ala George Santos, a trip to Harmons for country style ground Chorizo for Breakfast Burritos and Potatoes for boiling to make home fried potatoes sounds better.

Tablegating is in the house…

WX forecast for Ames on Saturday is 95% chance of rain.

If Lomu and Fano were still here, we’d just maul them and shorten the game.

Seems like it will depend on how intense the rain is, but lots of misdirection and whatever can be accomplished through the air. The wide open offense of Mac-G might actually be an advantage if we get the ball out in space to the playmakers… like Byrd, Bray, etc.

I hope they turn the sprinklers on for practice today

Afternoon forecast per Accuweather is drizzle with occasional rain. If accurate, then the weather won’t really affect anything.

It’s rained all week, though. It’s going to be soggy.

They just got a year’s worth of rainfall in the month of September…and it ain’t over yet. That field will be like running on a sponge, nevermind the footballs will be like throwing slick cinder blocks.

Hope the RB room is rested and ready.

The Weather Channel shows just cloudy by game time. But it will be raining up until about an hour before the game.

Glad this one is on the road. Hopefully their fan base will be disillusioned.
