Utah vs. Idaho football thread

That’s an embarrassing drive.

Seems like a lot of over pursuit along with blown coverages.

Really liking Pegan. Bigger version of Ryan Davis.

Got lucky there.

Not getting any pass rush pressure on Idaho is…not great.

The Utes subbed out a ton at nearly every position on D throughout the entire first half. They’re getting guys reps - I expect more of the same in the second.

I guess Idaho can virtually assault any player trying to make a catch tonight
Maybe they can use tasers too

Good looking drive.

Little concerned about the lack of much running game, but the offense looks solid right now.

Looks like the D is settling in as well as the o-line. Nice D series.

Well I’m glad they won, but it had to be a little less than thrilling by the fourth quarter.

It’s extremely difficult to learn much from beating Idaho, but the 66 points were the most opening-game points Utah has scored since 1915 when they beat Wyoming 70-7. So that’s cool.

LaMarcus Bell looked fantastic in the fourth quarter. He was going up against a worn-out FCS defense, so I’ll temper my enthusiasm a bit. The defense had a few lapses, but nothing too terrible. I was disappointed that Nate Johnson didn’t touch the ball. Interesting to see Brandon Rose in the game for the last two drives. The dumb announcers didn’t even mention or realize that he was formerly at Utah and came back after spending a year at UMass.

We will know a lot more next week.

That is slightly surprising to me. I remember they dropped over 70 on SUU two or three years ago - that must not have been an opener.

Just got back. Not sure how much fight Idaho had in the last 2/3 of the game, but we got to see the imprint Scalley has had, and it’s impressive. The 2s and 3s were bringing it to the end.

Focusing on some new guys, Pegan is legit, Ricky Johnson is a weapon, Chavez-Soto is faster than I thought, Lamarcus Bell is a sub 11 guy in the 100M. Great to see Hunter Andrews back, he’s another nice weapon.

In the post game, Sly mentioned there’s not any obvious attack points (yet) and the way McGiven called the game it will be hard for defenses to prepare because there’s so many personnel groups, so many ways a play can go - he said it was a little like in the NFL where you have to be prepared for so many possibilities. Just one game against a worn down FCS team, but… this could be a fun offense to watch.

Defensively, Karson Kaufusi was as good as we hoped, we’ll see how everyone else grades out, but they played hard and seemed to improve. Still a lot lo be determined up front. Reynolds reminds me of Chaz Walker, plays faster than he is because he can see what’s going to happen. Idaho gifted us 2 TDs right off the bat, so hard to tell.

Chennault got the start at CB, but I don’t know if that means a ton, except Shah feels like he has some pieces to work with. FR LB Polu has been said to have NFL potential, he’s a little undersized right now but he was everywhere.

Take away the presents and it was stil 52-14. Next week will tell us a lot more.
