The elevation of the field at Rice-Eccles Stadium is 4,640 feet above sea level, the Jon M. Huntsman Center, 4,800 feet.
I have no scientific evidence to validate my assertion, but I’m guessing relatively dry air makes for a noisier stadium, less sound attenuation.
For me personally, a Division I stadium that affords a view of the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon from some of the seats is the greatest football venue in the world.
The early fall view from the west bowl top (and pressbox backside) provides a view unequaled in college football…, for distance alone. The sunsets in particular are simply impossible to convey in mere words. It’s the elevation up that high that allows perspective all the way out to the southern end of Lakeside mountains near Delle… with all the varying ranges/islands in between. That view is the reason any time I had a season ticket I stayed on the west side near the top.
I would guess a gut feeling, and I would tend to agree at this point.
I hope to be pleasantly surprised if I’m wrong.
There was a certain amount of conviction in the way it was written (IMO). So I was wondering if he had some inside info that none of the rest of us were privy to.
I hate to link to KSL, but in his latest mailbag, Newman sounds pretty convinced that Cam will not start vs Florida. He does talk to people around the program regularly, so there is that. We are < two weeks out, and he is apparently still restricted in his participation, so I will be pretty surprised if he starts.
What about Kuithe?
That makes sense. Their carers and livelihoods are more important than a starting game.
Stomp those gators
After considering it, and maybe it is a little bit of wishful thinking glass half full kind of thing, but Bryson Barnes has some experience, has been with the program for 3 years, it’s not like he’s a true Freshman never played one snap of D-I football QB with stars in his eyes when walking out onto the field.
Switching subjects/miscellaneous;
-
In last October’s victory over USC, the offense lined up for a 2 point conversion with 48 seconds left, with the play clock winding down Rising motioned his hand with his palm up to the sky requesting that the play clock be reset, which the referee subsequently obliged. Why not implement this option every time the play clock is winding down?
-
When a quarterback spikes the ball down on the ground near his feet to stop the clock, why is this not intentional grounding, the ball never went beyond the line of scrimmage and there is no receiver in the area?
-
Switching to basketball, a slam dunk should be considered offensive goal tending, i.e., a player touched the ball while it was in the cylinder.
Things that make you go hmmmm:thinking:
Have you been listening to Steven Wright?
Whit said a lot of guys on D are out now and they are hoping they get back in time for the game. He didn’t say who but later referenced the defensive front. Said we would have to tap into the depth. Not incredibly encouraging. Seems like at other schools we hear about every little injury but you get nothing specific from our coaches.
I think the balance between injury prone >75% camps along with weight/power training is a tenous balance. Some years, in our sucess to overachieve (compared to expectations) have yielded the same. We definitely have more depth than ever, so let it be.
We will see results on the field as the game progresses. I don’t think we need to show ours cards or expect athletes to play unless they’re ready and willing to play.
Go UTES!
If Bad Moon takes the field for Utah’s first possession versus the Gators, it will be to thunderous applause.
The D-News’ educated guess on the 2-Deep, 7 days from Game 1:
Utah football: Projecting Utah’s two-deep ahead of Florida opener - Deseret News
Mostly not too informative, but interesting they have Micah Pittman at PR. That’s either a WAG, or they have some insight.
I know I read somewhere that he’s been taking the PR reps in camp.
Wasn’t Pittman all conference in the ACC at Florida State at punt return?
I believe it is “Remember your why, remember our why. Your why, our why. Can we do this? You bet your ■■■ we can.”
Well, according to this guy, Utah will start the undoing of Billy Napier.
Florida will be 3-9, Napier Fired
Well, even if that goes down, we better not fire Napier, as we really want to keep this recruiting class together. Give the man three years, and keep the best recruiting class we have had in a long long time together.
So anyway, should be a cake walk for the Utes.
