Looks like the game is going to be on at noon. I would like us to win much like yesterday on national TV
8PM EST on Fox.
I was really happy to see it as a noon game, but I guess that didn’t last long did it ![]()
Late games are great for tailgating, but sometimes (like last night), I’d really rather enjoy a nice cool to warm late fall afternoon game and tailgate afterward. Or if the weather’s bad, just go home.
The reality is, that the weather can be great or terrible on any given week or at any given time, but we seem to play far too many of our games at 8:00-ish PM when no one east of the Rockies is watching. (Now, get off my lawn!)
A 6:00pm start is ok, and it leaves plenty of time for tailgating…eeeerrrrr…tablegating. ![]()
This feels like a Navajo Taco game to me. Maybe cooking up some Carne Asada and/or Gyro meat. Chili is the easier prep.
Of course extra fry bread to doctor up with butter and honey or jams for dessert.
As I’ve gotten older my strong feelings about BYU have pretty much dissipated. I don’t cheer for them, but I’ll watch portions of their games. I do this with the Big12 schools and some of the former PAC-12 and MWC teams I’ve become accustomed to watching.
Anyway, I’ve been able to catch the last halves of several BYU games. Their QB is a true freshman and is actually very impressive, but he is getting dinged up the way they use him. I don’t expect him to last the season (sound familiar?). BYU has had some fortunate bounces to get where they are today - which honestly is what separates a lot of top teams from the rest. Utah didn’t get a single one of those last year resulting in a far worse record than what that team actually was. It happens in the positive way too (and we’ve even been the benefactor of that - it’s college sports).
BYU’s defense is legit - no surprise that Jay Hill would do that. BYU’s offense can be explosive at times. But overall I’m not impressed. They struggled with WVU more than they should have. Arizona snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
I think Utah’s last two performances compared to BYUs indicate that Utah is the better team. But, we are playing away, and this game, no matter the disparity, is always a toss-up. Maybe the Utes will have enough of a chip on their shoulder that they can run away with this thing. If it comes down to a toss-up I think fortune will continue to bounce BYUs way.
BYU is still the pranciest football team in CFB, but they are about 1/10 as prancy as they used to be. Maybe Sitake’s greatest contribution down there. That’s still a lot of prancing. Weirdest thing I’ve seen in college sports to be honest, and I wonder why more people don’t joke about it.
Final Score prediction: Utah 99-2.
Well, I am leaving up the U banner all week. I might need to find a JCW’s for their Chiliburger (if they still make them) sometime this week. If I didn’t think a trip to the Pie would land me a quadruple bypass, I would make the trek across the valley for that. I do have to make the trek for my flu-COVID shots.
Do those keep your arteries from clogging? ![]()
I wonder how they will achieve a safety given Utah’s offensive dominance? Maybe the 3rd-string quarterback takes a mercy knee in the end zone at the end of the game?
I like to watch the post game pressers - coaches still speak coachspeak, but sometimes they reveal more than they will on a Monday.
Whitt revealed Dampier was more hampered by his injury vs TTech than was apparent… which is how he looked like Devontae Booker vs ASU with jump cuts, acceleration and generally being evasive.
ASU’s HC Dillingham was amazingly transparent - we whupped them because of the QB run, the so called “+1” where if everyone else does their assignment the QB really only has one defender to beat. It never works out that way because defenders come off blocks, etc… but Dillingham said “we were out played, out coached and out schemed”. He said they kind of got behind the curve with our shifts, our motions, etc.
Against BYU, I expect Hill will have a solid scheme and they’ll definitely be primed to play. We’ll see much more of the throw game from Dampier, definitely see more than 12 pass attempts.
One new headache for Jay Hill is how to deal with Daniel Bray. He adds a dimension our other two RBs don’t have- a 10.3 100M guy who has wiggle. He stands out on a field full of athletes. Bray may be the X factor.
In the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter they decided to ‘trade’ some players with BYU to make things a little more even - like you used to do in grade school. The BYU QB, now playing for Utah, gets pressured by our walk-on D-Line, now playing for BYU at the 50 yard line and fumbles. He then proceeds to kick the ball 7 times as he stumbles to pick it up before finally grabbing it in our own endzone to be tackled for a safety.
At this point, BYU calls it a game and the players left on the field grab some rope and a soccer ball and play Human Foosball until the clock runs out. It’s a Provo thing.
I feel like this was pretty obvious.
Did Jake Heaps have a little brother?
This^^^
Saturday’s game was the first time I had really watched byu. Arizona had a drive late in the fourth quarter, up 7, and they opted to run twice, threw an incompletion, had to punt and we know what happened from there. One first down, and they win the game.
I feel better about this game than I did last year. But I dont feel great! hahaha. Should be a good one.
sigh, there are way too many unhinged people in this country
Time to cancel the “rivalry”. But the University of Utah does exist in the state of Florida West, so I suppose these types of things are the consequence.
I hope we don’t get a “thermos story” anytime soon.

What is going on with the Chrony?
Zero articles about the game only two days away, no mention of a filthy stuffed cat…
I was on a long drive yesterday and picked up Spence Checketts interviewing Chris Kamrani. They think:
*The game will be tight. BYU’s d-line is is a match for Utah’s o-line. Utah’s secondary needs to player better or the BYU QB might take advantage of them.
*That the rivalry is a little less nasty thwese days, in part because of Kyle and Kalani.
*That the programs are now pretty even with no dominant program these days, but BYU will probably have a long-term advantage because of NIL and an abundance of super-rich BYU fans..
FWIW.
