true but if they didn’t like playing for Smith/Slocum it would have been a perfect time to find another situation or stay where they were comfortable. I might be reaching but …
Wow…just read that Norbert Thelissen committed to USU. My initial impression of him on YouTube was pretty good. Guess we’ll see.
Let’s see what type of products Smith can put together.
Jones, apparently.
Arizona has offered and received a commitment from Pelle Larsson.
Just kick me in the boys repeatedly
Yea, but his dad already had a job and didnt need under the table help from an Aggie alum.
I really liked Jones. He may not have been as quick as most PAC guards but he was a great passer and ran the offense well. I wish he stayed.
Larsson to UA is going to be awful.
Maybe it was time to get rid of Coach K but I’m not convinced. This keeps getting worse by the day.
Does anyone agreed with me that players should not be able to use the transfer portal to move to a program in the same conference as the program they are leaving?
Yet with talent that good, Utah could not make the NCAA tournament.
Agreed.
I tend to agree, but Wilner has made the point that from a strength of conference standpoint we want to keep the best players in the conference. Maybe a rule that they are ineligible against the school they transferred from for the first year.
Far from it. Had a losing season in the conference and got crushed by BYU.
I was also, but I think we would have seen significant turnover regardless. So maybe not, yet another rebuilding year, asking ourselves why was K3 not terminated last year so that we can get on with the inevitable. That really is how I feel about this.
Not going to worry about kids leaving to free agency. If they wanted to be here, they would’ve stayed to play for the new coach.
Best wishes to them in their quest for happiness. I hope when the ball goes flat, they have their next chapter waiting, and that they will be successful there too.
Couldnt make the NIT
I can’t tell if this post is a troll or just a confused mess.
Nobody who follows Utah basketball as a day job doesn’t think they got the ideal hire. Fretting over what these second and third rate college basketball players are doing in this snapshot in time is not what I’d want anyone in charge of this programs to be doing.
I’m with you on if they don’t want to be here then go. However, when they transfer to a team in our conference, then no best wishes from me. I hope he’s a miserable failure at that house of cheating.
I can’t argue with that.
I’m afraid we are going to really struggle for the next couple of years (at least) in basketball. We have started over (again). Don’t misconstrue this as a vote for Larry. It was under his watch that we were starting over every damn year.
While it would be nice to have some success in 2021-22, it’s more about where we stand in a few years.
Certainly hope we can have more than 2 tourney appearances (one of which we were eliminated by a much lower seed) in the coming decade.
Unfortunately, yes. I am, however, hoping for a quick turnaround by Smith. I should qualify this by stating it’s based on nothing but my “glass half full” attitude.
And I also feel the same towards Bryan Thompson and his move to Arizona State.
Smith may be the perfect hire, but so far he hasn’t impressed me with his recruiting. Failure to keep some of the good players from last year and the fact that he has offered a lot of decent players that have all chosen other schools makes his recruiting less than impressive. Hopefully he can get better than midmajor players to commit. The excuse that he hasn’t been here long enough to start recruiting major talent doesn’t fly. New coaches at other schools seem to be out recruiting him. Hopefully he does much better in the future.
