How are we suppose to win without 12 guards?
If you go back into the thread a little bit you will see that I am making my statement in reference to him leaving Utah.
I think you and I can agree on this in part. I think he has the skill set of a division 1 basketball player but I donāt think he is athlete enough to be a division 1 athlete. And to use your terms I do not think he is a P5 athlete.
I think the new Utah coach would be wise to help R Jones find a new place to play. Then the new coach can bring in a more athletic guard to take R Jonesās place and train up the skill set. You can teach shooting, ball handling & BBall IQ. You really can only do so much training with athleticism. I also think the new coach is a very good hire for Utah.
Ill never forget watching in person as he took over the game (yeah, he missed a critical shot, i get it) against BYU in 2019 and led us to victory. I wish him well and wish it could have played out differently.
Yep it was a good game. A bit soul-crushing from my end but still it was a good game.
It looks like Rylan Jones is on his way to Utah State.
6ā2 Guard RSr
It seems apparent, the coaching staff is going with guards they are comfortable running their concepts. Jenkins Anthony and Worster will all help get the ball rolling faster hopefully. The only one Iām bummed to see go is Larsson. I think he would have been a great first guard off the bench that can create.
We still need some length at the 3 and depth at the 4 and 5. With Jones leaving depth at the 1 would help too.
I count 4 scholarships left?
Itās funny and on point, at the same time the reality is that this puts the U in need of a PG. Maybe this guy Worster is an option but the Utes need two guys. Having a bunch of combo guards try to fill the gap just isnāt a great strategy and hasnāt seemed to work.
Martinez would have been great but I think him Allen Jantuenen were out the door no matter what the new coaching staff felt like. Larsson and Carlson were the only two that we had a chance to truly keep.
Bummer. Heās my boy! (Not literally).
looking for any silver linings in all of this transfer stuff and I think I found one. It might be a bit of a grasp, but its good to see players loyal to Craig Smith and Slocum follow them to Utah. Iām sure weāll continue to see players enter the transfer portal and leave Utah in the future, but anything we can do to minimize that exodus is key to long-term success IMO.
Kansas, Kentuckyās, etc can rebuild each year by grabbing several of the top 100 high school players every year. Utahās program needs to be based on having players develop over several years and as upperclassman use that experience as an advantage over more experienced teams.
Thanks for attending my Ted talk
Get d stay old.
Did Larsson land somewhere? Is his status involved in any way?
(Come on, fall camp in FB ! ! ! )
iād be a lot less concerned if there were some transfers flowing in the other direction.
p.s. to my knowledge, no news on Pelle. Still in the portal.
Fairly safe to assume Pelle is gone.
Not necessarily arguing with this statement, but have you had the opportunity to attend a game at Utah State? Best atmospher in the state ā I mean itās like they give a rats*** or something.
Great supportive fans in Logan in hoops and in football and other sports. Always cheer for their team and they donāt boo them off the field/court when theyāre having a rough day. That āswinging armsā cheer (supposed to be a feisty Dutchman or something) is rather silly, but harmless fun.
Certainly their student section in hoops is MILES ahead of what our team gets from our student section.
