The Transfer Portal Thread

So much this. It cannot be overstated how truly obnoxious a small subset of Ute fans on Twitter and FB fans are. There’s only about a dozen of them, but they’re everywhere antagonizing other fan bases and generally being douchecanoes.

If I were fans of another B12 school and my only exposure to Utah was those mouthbreathers, I’d hate us too.

And they do. They really do. My efforts to calm the storm often go unnoticed. Some of the fans are so sophomoric it’s hard to take. Some of them only post to taunt fans of other schools. BYU fans also can be pretty lame too, but they don’t compare to the idiocy of FB & Twitter Utes.

I was actually one of Reagan’s replacement controllers. In OKC for 4 months.

I was supposed to go to ANC center, but given that 19 of my 20 instructors at OKC were chain-smokers, I decided I really needed to get my butt back into college before I got addicted to the money.

Technically, the job is pretty interesting and fits in with my aviation background, but I dunno about being stuck behind the screen(s) for 40 hours a week. One of my neighbors at SLC center told me about 10 years ago the shift work (then) was 2 day shifts, 2 swings and a graveyard, every week. I’m just not wired for that, but 20 years & then retirement? That would have been nice.

So, yeah, it was back to college for MOI! But there were some hilarious war stories we learned in OKC.

True, and I am just glad they are there and not here.

Wonder what program this could be? (hint it’s Arizona)

Oh, that’s a shame.

One of them is Coleman, their 1,200 yard RB. If they can somehow keep their QB Fifita (doubtful), it’ll be a small miracle.

While talking FAA and aviation:

  • A friend of mine worked as a meteorologist (MS, atmospherics physics UU) at the the FAA air traffic control center in Palmdale, CA. He gave me a tour one day. It was shortly after President Reagan cleaned out a huge number of striking controllers, who were then replaced by young and wild newcomers. On the tour he mentioned, see that guy over there, he is having an affair with that guys wife over there, that guy over there is a cocaine user, etc. A couple years later I read an article in the L.A. Times describing wholesale removal of most of the controllers at the FAA center Palmdale. He then went on and described some of the air traffic controlled processes (early 1980’s). Each controlled had a number of little of paper “receipts” that assigned the few flights that they were responsible for a few minutes/seconds, prior to passing one of the aircraft (receipts) on to an individual who was responsible for a different elevation layer/area that the aircraft was entering. My main thought was, this doesn’t look that hard, like tossing a ball into a small waste basket right next to you, EXCEPT, if you ever make a mistake, just once, and miss the waste basket, a hundred people could possibly die.

  • I was backpacking with this same individual in Southern Utah a few days after the 9/11 tragedy. He had a small transistor radio, which we turned on to an AM station at one point. The first story that we heard was; President Bush would like the American people to resume flying again. The very next story was, President Bush has given authority to the U.S. Air Force to shoot down any commercial aircraft that are deemed a hazardous threat.

Did you ever see the movie Pushing Tin? Starred Billy Bob Thornton, John Cusack, Angelina Jolie, and Cate Blanchett. Quite a lineup for a small fun movie about air traffic controllers.

Just went online and placed a hold on the DVD at my local library.

I read this whole story and my head was spinning by the time I was halfway through. Looks like big changes are coming, but there’s no telling what they’ll be.

LOL. Do we think Congress will actually do something? Anything? About anything in the country as a whole not just sports? Not to get political but the Orange man is calling the shots for most of them.

This thread, and all others dealing with D-I football and basketball, should be rolled into the Pro Sports category.

Jayden de Laura, the former Wazzu and Arizona QB who just transferred to Texas State, has since withdrawn from the school. Interestingly Texas State’s prior starter had already moved on…

Yeah, TX State is having troubles. De Laura was heavily protested by TX State fans. Seems that being a bad boy has repercussions. I read on r/cfb that Wazzu fan wasn’t too upset to see him go, nor was the admin at WSU.
