For at least the last day I went ahead and paid for the free 3-day trial with Fox sports on YouTube or whatever it was called and then immediately after the stream ended I immediately canceled it.
Just for future reference, you can cancel a streaming service early and you will be allowed to keep streaming until the time you have paid for has run out. I usually cancel one week before the renewal date. Sometimes they will even offer you a deal to “stick around”. For instance, I got Peacock for one month to watch the Super Bowl (at $12.99/m) and then cancelled pretty soon after. They offered me $2.99 to stay on for another 6 months.
people who talk on the train or do other things like it’s their home, putting feet up on seats, watching movies on their phone, playing music for everyone…
I commuted for 2 years. It was great. There were regulars who knew each other and had a grand chat each ride. Others kept to themselves and wore ear buds while watching movies, music or video games. It was rare when someone was disruptive.
I guess times have changed…from 5 years ago.
While I agree with the others, these two seem like normal things that people would do on a train.
As long as they’re watching movies with headphones, I don’t see what the big deal is.
You’d probably feel better at home in Japan, they have very strict train etiquette there.
I meant those talking loudly and those watching things on their phone with the sound at an audible level. Some people have phone conversations with the speaker on.
I fly a lot and the number of people, dressed in basically their pajamas, and having loud speakerphone conversations or watching youtube or tiktok videos without sound are where the Venn diagram is basically one circle.
Pre-covid, I flew every other week for 10+ years. 100% agree with you on the speakerphone jackholes. Screw those people.
However, I would die before giving up my “travel jammies” (comfy sweatpants and a t-shirt or ratty hoodie). Comfort above all when you’re a frequent flyer.
Restaurants that allow you to order and pay online for pick up, and then make you wait with the walk-in customers while they prepare your order after you arrive.
Without trying to be blatantly provocatively political, there is no doubt that things change dramatically when Trump was elected the first time and we got a small reprieve during biden’s presidency, but as soon as the election was decided again all of those monstrous vile human beings that feel empowered by Trump have come out of the woodwork. And it is spread through the entire culture. People are now in kind of a survival and dog eat dog mode. Very much a wild west kind of mentality of shoot the other guy before he can shoot you
While we’re on the subject, people who want to lean their seat back when it’s obvious to them that the person behind them already has smashed knees.
Trust no one.
I remember reading about when the pioneers first arrived in the Salt Lake valley. On the night of their arrival they commemorated the event by lighting off fireworks.
my father died three months ago, and my sister and I are still dealing with settling his affairs. Ugh, what a pain/nightmare!
I had no idea how involved and complex this can be. And I consider my fathers arrangements relatively simple, I can’t imagine dealing with a more complex situation.
Thanks for listening to me whine. I blame Ludwig
It can be a huge amount of work. My wife and I are the oldest children in each of our families and it fell to each of us to perform the role of trustee and settle each of our parents trusts.
In each case, our parents had planned reasonably well, left trusts which had ownership of most of their assets, and had left reasonably thorough instructions as to what they wanted done. Even then, it took me a year and a half to close my mothers estate after she passed, and since she had been in assisted living/memory care for 6 years, I had already done one of the hardest tasks, emptying the house and distributing/selling belongings.
My wife has been at it for almost three years, and will not be complete until her final Trust tax filing next spring.
Estate planning, setting up a thorough Trust with all you assets, and recording definitions of all of your desires about trust settlement, is the best gift anyone can give their children.
Sorry for you and your family.
It’s a challenging situation even with an airtight will/trust and cooperative beneficiaries. One of the best ways to navigate this for relatives over a certain age is a Completed “Disbursement Document” clearly indicating who gets what, when and how.
The DD form we filled out for our trust was much more comprehensive than I thought it would be. But it actually is helpful to understand how hard it would be for whoever navigates our estate to ensure disbursement is truly our “final wishes” (especially if we both go together). It might be hard to bring up for some folks, but having relatives think about these things - well in advance - and having conversations about disbursement can save a lot of hurt feelings, or even legal hurdles. While, the will and trust will indicate power of attorney executive authority for the estate, it doesn’t often go into the details. As the saying goes. the devil is in the details.
So if somebody absolutely wants that that vintage 1920 Mossberg side by side or the 1965 Plymouth Road Runner someone else fully restored with their uncle over three years is absolutely going to be theirs, No Disbursement document makes it murky or mute.
It also might just be that no one else really cares… It’s probably better for them to know sooner instead of assuming later. It’s now always high value objects that might be of interest or in dispute. Loosing someone you love is personal and emotional.
I’m not an attorney, but it’s my understanding that a well detailed Disbursement Document will supersede and direct almost all bequeathment actions in the best possible manner.
Hope this helps.
Well that’s sort of why I’m a little bit glad that I am so isolated from so many people on the planet. Which the few blood relatives that I have left, and only three step siblings left, no one bothers to make an independent effort to contact me and check on my well-being. That made things simple enough for me to decide a year ago to cancel the life insurance I’d had for about 10 years… And I blame Alex trebek for nagging me into doing that… But the isolation and lack of contact during the pandemic made it clear that nobody gave it down. So there was no reason to bother with a funeral. At the same time I don’t have anything in the way of an estate to worry about just whatever small amount of personal belongings are left to me. And honestly once I’m dead with no family to worry about not even a pet to worry about I don’t really care what happens to all of that stuff. It won’t matter.
I have watched the struggle that my cousin and my step and nephew have gone through with the passing of my lost aunt and my stepmother in the last year. And how long it took them to deal with it.
You have my profound sympathy and commiseration for what seems like sisphyean task
My pet peeve is people that seem to be the victim in every post. Maybe there is a reason things aren’t what you want them to be.
It’s because everyone is against me.
