The official "What are you listening to right now?" thread

I’m obsessed with this new album from Wolf Alice. Several good songs released so far. Its got a 70’s sound to it.

an AC unit

I hadn’t listened to Fogerty’s Centerfield album in a long time, and when this song came on, it was instant BAM for me. Rocking guitars.

Also, so many “I hate you” songs (including this one) about his old manager who had really taken him to the cleaners.

Heard a version of a favorite old Beatles tune redone by one of my wife’s current favorite bands, who are VERY GOOD, the Tedeschi-Trucks Band, and loved it:

I then immediately went back and listened to the original, and loved it as well; but frankly I’ll always prefer the small group, two or three voice harmonies like the Beatles, rather than the chorus effect of a Leon Russel style group, not because it’s better, but because as a struggling vocalist, it’s way easier to identify a harmony line I can hear and sing.

Then, as YouTube does, an algorithm predicted a next selection, which is usually a complete miss, but tonight it found another tune, sort of from the same era as the Beatles tune, but one of my favorite old tunes. The Irony of the line:

“I swear there ain’t no heaven, but I pray there ain’t no hell”

was not lost on me as a 12 year old, but was lost on most of the adults around me who heard it and commented in 1968.

AAANNNND she’s back.. with creepy dolls this time!

She filmed this in Mexico City between her Mexico City and Singapore shows of that Stadium tour to start her MAYHEM cycle.

Keep in mind folks, she is ~6 months from being 40 years old. She doesnt appear to be slowing down one bit… I’m a bit breathless trying to keep up.

with absolute intent. THere are traces of THriller in the choreo on purpose, and then once the dolls go purple and the REAL DISCO FUNK gets going out comes the Saturday Night Move.

The brilliance of blending industrial/techno pop and disco funk is just amazing. Doesnt have the impact of Abradabra, but is destined to become a funk favorite.

Yesterday, I pulled the trigger and bought tix to return to Maryland Deathfest in 2026. Next year won’t be as exciting as this year’s (since I won’t get to see my #1 bucket list band) but the 2026 lineup is still really solid. This time around, I’m working to get more familiar with the bands well ahead of time. There’s several that I know quite well (Kreator, Grave, Rotting Christ, November’s Doom, Blood Red Throne, etc.) but there’s lots more that I’ve never really paid much attention to.

One of the bands that everyone seemed excited about but I hadn’t really heard was Old Man’s Child. I knew them mostly by reputation, but hadn’t never actually got around to listening to their music. Listened to them on my morning run today and…holy sh*t.

This is amazing and I can’t wait to dig into their back catalog more!

I knew he was good / great, but I had no idea Pat Metheny has TWENTY Grammys. That’s loco.

Sailing across the Atlantic we were becalmed in very slight wind and blasted Pat Metheney on the speakers and a whole pod of dolphins came straight to us from far away and hung out with us.

Funny you posted this today. I was driving home this morning after coming in from Sydney and feeling a bit drowsy when " Are You Going With Me" popped up on my I-pod. I cranked it to 11 and got a sudden burst of alertness to make it home.
I’ve seen him several times, including at Kingsbury Hall in the mid to late eighties. Great show! Hell of a musician.

I saw that song on Youtube- a version of Follow Me with a Polish singer & Polish lyrics to create Are You Going With Me. Pat just playing an acoustic guitar, not doing that crazy manipulation of whatever guitar he uses. The range of sounds he can produce from that one guitar is stunning.

The album “Imaginary Day” where “Follow Me” was first released is an artistic masterpiece, taking the listener on a journey. The Grammys are completely understandable. This guy is a genius.

Metheny has a song Chris which sounds like it’s the soundtrack of This is Not America where he collaborated with Davie Bowie for the move Falcon and the Snowman. That movie was about those 2 teenagers from Palos Verdes who got seriously disillusioned with the direction of things - Vietnam, Watergate, various interventions - and sold secrets to the Soviets.

Back then I thought that movie was a little crazy, but interesting. Today that song is haunting. It hits much harder than it did in 1985.

A huge amount of direct quoting of Dickey Betts by both guitarists - very nice!
