Amen
I was fortunate enough to meet both of them. They were both extremely humble, kind and gentle souls.

Deadsy popped up on a playlist yesterday, and it made me wonder (not for the first time) how this band didn’t blow up in the early 2000’s.
Fronted by Elijah Blue Allman (the son of Cher and Greg Allman), Deadsy was this really weird combination of poppy synth and grimy, fuzzed out metal. It’s like Type O Negative meets Pet Shop Boys or Electric Wizard mixed with Erasure. They had a minor hit with “Key to Gramercy Park” then just kinda…disappeared. Shame, as their “Commencement” album was an absolute banger.
I think they hit in a weird place and time and didn’t quite connect with any particular group. They were a little too new wave for the goth kids, a little too poppy for the metal crowd, way too dark for the pop crowd, too happy for the stoner crowd, etc. They were proggy, heavy, weird and just didn’t really fit in anywhere and fizzled out.
They also did a really killer cover of Rush’s "Tom Sawyer’.
Is there any way you follow me on Spotify? That album popped in my head a few weeks ago for some reason and I forgot how much I loved “Winners” and “Brand New Love” back in the day. I have listened to it almost every day for a couple weeks.
To answer your question about why they didn’t blow up: their second album SUCKED!
For a bunch of reasons, I started remembering this song this morning. It wasn’t because I heard it. It was other stuff going on.
Heh, that’s random. I doubt I’ve listened to them in the last 10 years, but they all of a sudden popped up. It was actually in YouTube, of all places.
I didn’t even know they had a second album. Guess I can safely skip it.
They apparently put out a new single about a month ago that is entirely meh.
Not sure why a band with such a unique sound would just say “I know, let’s go do an Oasis rip-off that is entirely generic and completely forgettable instead!”
While I thought 95% of late 90’s/early 00’s nu-metal was garbage, every once in a while there was a band that jumped out as a standout. Deadsy was one, The Deadlights were another that popped up with an absolutely killer album, then just vanished.
The real standout was “Whores” which is a 2-minute banger that absolutely just torches everything in it’s path as it kicks down the door.
“Amplifier” got the heads banging as well with a fantastic riff.
They had a minor hit with “Sweet Oblivion”, which sounded nothing like the rest of the album.
I swear, we’re all somehow on the same random playlist.
I just listened to this song today for the first time in, I dunno, 15 years? And now it shows up here.
You’re part of the UteFans matrix…
That’s because it’s a bunch of old folks here. Haha
Haha well in my case, it was on one of my own personal mp3 playlists with about 1,000 songs on it so very random. Came up during my morning run… also hadn’t heard it in ages.
