Anyone else go to The Cure last night? They played for three hours, 29 songs.
Coda is such a great movie.
I have a buddy whom I am sure/hope was there. He Loves the Cure
I saw them in Seattle last Thursday night, for just the second time in my life, and was reminded that they are one of the greatest live bands of all time. Just outstanding.
It was great but sadly the audio for concerts at the Delta Center is awful.
I never got to see The Beatles but finally got to see A Beatle. Tuesday night I saw Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. It was a great show. His voice was surprisingly in very good form, plus it was like also seeing Toto, Edgar Winter, Men at Work and the Average White Band, as they each did their “greatest hits.”
I love Ghost. I love Iron Maiden. I do not love that cover. Was mostly just underwhelmed by Ghost’s latest EP of cover songs, tbh. Still looking forward to seeing them in August though.
One of the most consistently interesting metal bands working today, Thy Catafalque, has a new album coming out tomorrow. They’ve released videos for the first couple tracks: one super heavy and menacing and the other more proggy and quirky.
They’re one of only a few bands that I can proactively pencil into my “Top 10 Albums” for the year, even before the album is even released.
“I took my wife on holiday”
“D’yer maker?”
“No, she went on her own accord”
D’yer Maker was supposedly a British way of saying Jamaica.
I first became intrigued with Surf rock as a kid when I chanced upon a trove of old Ventures records. Over the years I’ve developed an appreciation for modern Surf rock in its many forms. Particularly the wave emerging from the East Coast these past couple decades, with its own unique jangly, dream-like sound. Bands like Real Estate, Beach Fossils and The Drums.
This triggers profound and affectionate memories from chilhood teenage days to go dance all night to this band: The Incredible Casuals. Here they are at a famouse oceanside dive-bar called The Beachcomber, with stunning views of Nauset Beach (now famous for shark attacks).
We use to dance till we got blisters on our feet.
Great to see there still kicking it.
