Spring Football 2026

Morgan says a lot in a short interview. He’s looking pretty natural.

Where are the jugs machines? You can actually hear the interview for a change!

The reports are interesting.

More energy. More positive vibes. But also more urgency.

Guessing guys like having music from this century playing.

Interview with Shah that reveals some of Scalley that nobody gets to see, and how they’ve worked well together for so long. I can see how Shah, bored with the attorney game, came back to his first love of football and was welcomed with no experience.

A natural, with an unusual depth. He could be off to the NFL, but he’s at home.

No Spring game this year. That’s a bummer

Spring games were so vanilla that they were meaningless. Defense could only play quarters with no blitzing. The team gets much more out of an extra scrimmage than spring game.
I would love to see the DIV 1 say no more FCS in regular season but you can play one in spring.

I just saw this on KSL. Not terribly enlightening but it is something. New OC and Scalley want to pass more. Hopefully the offense is good, and the D improves over the last half of last season.

Darkness Is Changing

Went to practice this morning. It was a mixture of some live and some thud. As should be expected there was both good and not so good on both sides of the ball.

I like the WR group. I think the addition of guys like Kyrie Shoels, Braden Pagen and Ricky Johnson together with Zipperer being healthy added to Whittemore and Simmons the group will be solid. Simmons, Zipperer and Johnson stood out today.

I doubt we get the TE production of the last couple of years, but they should be okay. They run a couple of plays for 300 lb Taulinga and he scored on both. Noah Bennee has some athleticism and should make some plays as well. Hunter Andrews did not play.

The OL looks like they are progressing and while I don’t expect them to perform at the level the OL did last year, they should be solid.

My main concern is the DL. It doesn’t appear that we have the size at either DT or DE to hold up against stout offensive lines. I have fears of the last couple games where the DL was overmatched.

Talking with a few of the admin staff holdovers I know and they indicated that the players loosened up significantly when Scalley took over. Some commented that Whit had tightened everything up the past couple of years like he did his first few years. There was a tightness in the facility among staff and players. While the football side of Scalley and Whit are very similar, the personalities are very different. One commented that he thinks the program just needed a different personality.

The coaches who followed Whit to Michigan almost doubled their pay. Powell went from $500k to $1 mil. Can’t blame them.

Perhaps Taulinga will be playing some DT? (Just a WAG.)

It’s much harder for linemen to play both ways, but he didn’t get a ton of snaps last year, could (conceivably) help in the middle on the D… perhaps.

This has been the same thing coming out in Michigan, they’re suddenly locked into a rigid process with little freedom.

I’ve heard several Ute players were excited to finally hear music made after 2000

No hitting below the belt here.

Anyway, kids listen to loud noises and call it music. We had taste and culture.

I think this is where I say “Get off my lawn.”

Seriously, the kids ought to be choosing the workout riffs.

Former Utah QB Nate Johnson is turning heads at receiver – Deseret News

“Use your speed!”

IIRC, Nate was #5 in the State of California in the 100M in HS. Not quite Jav Guidry level - who won the 100M in both Texas and Cali - but his athleticism jumps out.

Sounds like Nate got into the doghouse last year and never got out.

Just out of curiosity, do you know what his 100M time was?

10.36 PR, other official sources say 10.52 (wind-legal)
