So…do we have confirmation on JJ?
I haven’t seen anything that indicates he is leaving.
Lots of smoke yesterday, but nothing official.
Hoping it’s just a byproduct of social media nonsense and college football silly season, but we’ll see.
Last night on channel 2 they had a couple of football players. They were asked who the funniest guy on the team was (or something like that, I wasn’t paying close attention because of Kinnehack), but one of them said JJ. Not reading anything into that other than I hope that means he’s still on the team because maybe they wouldn’t have brought him up otherwise.
I hope we at least get a running back finders fee ![]()
JJ is listed as starter on Bowl depth chart. Broughton is also listed.
At a bare minimum, I would think teammates would appeal to teammates about bailing to the portal, before the bowl.
It’s bad enough with the guys headed to NFL - which is maybe a little easier to understand - but jumping into the portal? What about all the work they put in, together? Did the brotherhood dissolve in November?
I find it supremely ironic that the entities who had a disproportionate impact on how college football got to this point - ESPN and FOX - stand to lose a LOT of money because bowl games are trending toward being weird exhibition games that are drawing fewer and fewer viewers, with hollowed out teams
Notable exception to all this insanity: Bryson Barnes
Yeah seems like JJ is playing in the bowl for sure.
U Athletics social media shows him arriving with the team in Vegas…a good sign in itself. Of course, if he is leaving I guess he could’ve agreed to wait until after the bowl to announce it.
For giggles I looked at JJ’s X feed. I could see no indication he was anything but a Utah man today.
This is consistent with what a woman I met in NYC in September (a neighbor of some friends we were visiting in the city) who had worked for ABC Sports for 30 years told me. She says she blames ESPN for what’s become of college football. She definitely was not happy with how they do things, having lived through the Disney-arranged marriage of ABC Sports and ESPN, and not having anything good to say about the results.
The primary sh*t-stirrer over the weekend (Alex Markham, Rivals Utah site) hasn’t mentioned anything about it since Saturday either.
Maybe it was BS. Maybe he got bad info. Maybe it just hasn’t happened yet. Maybe it’s still in the works. Maybe JJ changed his mind. Maybe some of all of the above. Who TF knows at this point.
All I do know is that the fact that it’s an entirely plausible scenario just continues to chip away at my interest in college football.
The whole thing smells of the Dalton Kincaid rumors in 2022.
In an interview with Luther Ellis in the Trib, he indicates that his son will not be leaving the Utes for the NFL. He will not be able to participate in spring ball, but his injured shoulder (torn labrum) should be healed in time for summer workouts.
COMMIT ANALYSIS: Utah adds a good one to the running back room in Anthony Woods
Seems like a good get, but interesting with a full QB room.
I will not be at all surprised to see 2 RBs enter the portal after the bowl game. Despite the injury issues with Bernard and JJ, they had to move Vaki as opposed to getting one of the 3 freshmen up to speed.
I put the over/under at additional guys to portal after bowl game at 5.5
At bowl presser today Whit says d he expects a handful of guys to enter portal after bowl game but he is hopeful that no RB’s will enter.
Yep.
Really cool article on Brandon Rose and why he’s staying.
He really should get some snaps on Saturday, regardless of the situation.
