We apparently snagged a Defensive End from BYU as well, John Henry Daley.

Zoobs seem quite irked about it, so I’ll assume that’s a good sign.

LOTS of smoke today that another school threw a bag at JJ and he’s bailing unless Utah can somehow match (which appears to be unlikely). :rage:

I’m so f*cking over the NIL era…

Sounds like Ty Jordan’s mom tried to talk him into staying, but…

Sigh, not fun realizing where you fit in the food chain

Coaches no longer recruit. The term should be changed to shop.

So the haves simply go shopping for next years produce and we are just another isle at the store for them.

This clown car if a sport structure can’t blow up fast enough.

Either make them university employees and collectively control it or spin it off to the NFL as a farm league but this joke isn’t funny anymore and needs to end.

Yeah, supposedly Oklahoma St, and a done deal according to some accounts. Which would mean we now have to go get a new feature back. I’m so done with all of this… I don’t think there’s any saving CFB.

Losing JJ is a gut punch, no question. Fan favorite, motivational leader, etc.

But I’m told there’s a bit more to the story. Supposedly Ty Jordan helped convince JJ to transfer here, then was gone. Then the other part of their trio from back home was gone 9 months later. Serious trauma.

Different situation, but we had a larger-than-life physician pass away suddenly & tragically. It was a massive loss. One of the other physicians in that specialty ended up taking another position elsewhere, in part because seeing the patients & having to re-live their shared heartbreak emotionally wore him out.

Stillwater is a lot closer to home for JJ. I’m sure NIL was part of it, but we have to remember there are always other factors. He was hurt a lot, this past season. That wears on guys, makes them question what’s important, etc. Maybe he wants to heal up and finish his collegiate career closer to home. I’m sure money is involved, as well, but anyone who knows JJ knows he’s a character guy, so it’s not simply about cash.

Recruiting is endless, NIL is part of the deal. But just as Xavier Carlton apparently just wanted to go back home to California - or maybe there was a girl involved, who knows? - guys will leave.

Just have to keep looking for character guys who can step up and perform bigger roles like JJ did.

I guess I have resigned myself to cheering for the guys on the field and trying to not get too caught up with the other stuff. If they leave for another school, they leave. I guess my attitude is what John Pease said after that DL left for USC many years ago: “I wish him nothing.”

Oklahoma State has a great running back named Ollie Gordon, who is a sophomore. Unless he is transferring, I don’t see JJ being the main guy there.

That’s the part that’s so weird to me. If he leaves for Ok St, he’ll be going from being the much-beloved, fan favorite, feature back with a sky-high ceiling on the team who is a favorite to win the conference…to being the backup to last year’s Doak Walker award winner, who is a proven every-down, workhorse type of RB.

Different kids want different things and we don’t know the entire story (as others have already said) but that’s a real head scratcher.

All in, or in the way.

If he is not fully committed, if his heart isn’t in it, better for him and the team to move forward. I feel that way about any college player that has a price tag.

I’m all for players making money off the field…hate it when used as leverage against their current team. We’re soon going to have a bunch of rent-a-players lining up on the field.

Utah just got a commitment from Luke Bryan, a 6’2” 200 lb safety from Olympus. This is an interesting pickup. Not highly recruited. Will probably turn into an LB. It is also interesting that they never offered Steve Tate’s son, who committed to Stanford. It may also mean that the Asiata kid and the kid from Bountiful are headed to probably BYU. The Bountiful kid (a safety) is really good. Not sure how good Asiata can be. although it may mean nothing since he is a Mission kid.

It seems like the Bountiful kid has always been leaning towards Utah, I hope that hasn’t changed. He is good. He is a very good WR as well.

I have seen the Bountiful kid play. He is indeed very talented.

I’m wishing for a more stars dial.

Neither Utah or BYU offered. Surprising.

I want more chaos in CFB because of NIL. In fact, I want it to drive CFB almost into the ground. Without severe chaos, CFB/NIL won’t get fixed, IMO.

I think Steve Tate is a parent who meddles too much. While I believe he was trying to help his son, I think pushing him to 3 different high schools was a red flag to local coaches.

Going to Stanford. I doubt there’s any regrets.
