The money might be nice, but there are still questions about Riley’s remaining shelf life in SoCal.
However, I would not blame anyone for jumping at ridiculous money.

He might be able to extract a promise that he would succeed Riley if Riley is canned. Or, if not a promise, he sees a quick way up to HC there because Riley is short term.

I like our chances if all the pieces are in place. But we have 5 road games, one against Oklahoma State. We can’t just mail it in.

Certainly a possibility. Would he go? These days, never know. Jedd has done a masterful job at UA.
Last year, UA played us tough. This year, it really embarrassed Utah. IMO, I couldn’t care less if Utah is playing 2nd or 3rs string players, should not have let that happen. Losing is one thing, to be outclassed is another. It happens, I understand, but for a program that’s built on solid fundamentals, it was a big let-down.

Some brief comments from Whitt.
Seeing multiple rumors that Johnson left the team this week after Cam’s announcement and Barnes is hurt, which means we may see Bottari (sp?) start on Saturday. All Twitter and Reddit stuff, so take with the appropriate amount of salt (hope they’re wrong).
What a weird season this has been that even if it turns out to be nonsense, it’s a completely plausible scenario.
Yeah, some of it seems plausible and credible based on who and what is being posted.
And if it’s true, Bottari would be the guy because they’re likely trying to preserve a medical RS for Rose.
Bottari is a JC transfer in his second year in the program. He had actually announced that he was transferring to Cal after last season, then ended up staying.

If Utah is down to Bottari, this will literally be the first time I know of that Utah has had to go to its 5th-string guy. How would that even work? Has Bottari taken any practice reps? The playbook would have to be extremely thin.
Mack Howard and some guy named Steve Smedley are on the roster too. And maybe Jackson takes some snaps. He knows the offense. But I am sure he is hurt too.

I caught just a bit of Barnes talking to Riley on ESPN 700 yesterday and I sure didn’t detect any indication that he wouldn’t be playing Saturday. I really hope the rumor about Johnson is false for his sake. If he thinks he needs to leave, fine, but I would think he’d be better served to make the most of his last opportunity before the portal opens on 12/4 in order to make a transfer that is better for him.
In the meantime, I’m going to hope these are just rumors. If not, ugh.
