Great. Can he take the WWE thing, the Monster Energy logo and the rest of his clown show with him? At least until the Big12 implodes with the next round of realignment?
If I had to bet money I would say the next commissioner will come from one of the networks or entertainment industry. The days of having someone from athletics is over.
The need is for someone with business experience negotiating partnership contracts. Hopefully someone that won’t undersell a naming rights contract.
Yep like Kliavkoff who replaced Larry Scott. He, of course, turned out not to be such a great hire…but that was on him.
I dislike the chants aimed at BYU. I really do. I am not even close to a BYU fan, but I (like many Ute fans) am a member of the church that sponsors the university. But I sure hope these guidelines apply to BYU too. I was at a Utah-BYU game in RES, probably 2010, when at halftime there was some kind of recognition for a U of U LGBTQ organization. Forgive me, I cannot remember details. Anyway, during the middle of it some Y fans near me were scoffing and another yelled out a derogatory jeer at the group. Completely out of line.
BYU’s loss at UCF looking even worse 1 1/2 quarters into their game with Baylor.
BYU fans in a real funk tonight after UCF looks like garbage getting blown out by Baylor at home.
“I thought I was over the UCF loss until tonight”
They seem to think they really were the #2 team in the nation, with no room to consider that perhaps Notre Dame didn’t play their best game - with ND’s QB turning a simple spike into a fumble.
“Our UCF loss is the worst since UTEP in 1985”.
Hahahaha….oh boy.
No team in this league is a guaranteed win, and I hope we can avoid a letdown and find a way to win tomorrow.
But for tonight it’s funny to watch UCF beat the BYU fanbase twice.
Anyone who thought BYU was the second-best team in the nation needs to have their head examined.
Are they even the second best team in the Big12?
To be clear, I haven’t seen enough play to even confidently say who I think the top 3 are.
Probably? Still a lot of games, but seems like Utah and TSPP are top 2. They have a pretty solid D (missed tackles, wring timing for pressure, drop 8 vs UCF). Offense is improving with Bear throwing more and receivers improving while LJ out. Bear qb run on 3rd almost a given.
TT was in the mix for top 3 but seems like their offense is a little less then last year and Sorsby fiasco. Their other 5th year transfer can play again and he adds a running dimension Hammond doesn’t have. $ bought a lot.
Arizona and OSU still have a say. TSPP have a win against UA, we have to get ours. Neither of us play OSU. TT does.
Conference championship likely needs 8-1 record or tiebreakers. Utah can be 9-0. 2nd team could be 8-1 or 7-2 tiebreaker winner.
No matter how good or bad each team actually is this game is almost always a toss-up.
I think BYU is a very good team… but…
They have sneaked by some very suspect teams and they have maybe the most suspect 8-1 record of the ranked teams out there. Meaning a few last minute miracles are what separate them from a very different record. Then again, good teams find a way to win.
I’ve watched some BYU football. Their defense is extremely good. Their offense keys on a few excellent players and really requires that the field get spread so Bachmeier can run it up the middle if a play doesn’t materialize. The last couple of games teams have figured it out and packed the box and Bachmeier has not been nearly as spectacular.
And I’ll say I really like Bachmeier and would happily have him on the Utes. BYU didn’t know how lucky they were to have Retzlaff… ahem… leave the team.
BYU lives on the big plays and that is a problem for us. We’ll see what happens on the field. But I don’t believe BYU is actually a top 10 team. Utah I think is. And if we can get a complete game from this team without the lulls and letdowns we certainly are a top 10 and even top 5 team.
I expect that they’ll be ready. I think we’ll see some packages we haven’t seen yet. If we can get past BYU then I think the only thing standing in the way of a top 4 spot in the CFP is ourselves.
This may be one of the biggest regular season games in our history, and the history of this game tempers my typically more optimistic predictions.
BYU is a legitimately good team who knows this game is a deal breaker for them getting into the CFP.
That being said:
Utah 99-4
7-1. See, even you are giving them too much credit @RockerUte.
