NCAA Tournament

Memo to the PAC 12 Board of Trustees:

If a school plays games on TV when the rest of the country is asleep, does it count?

Well, here in Basketball I hope we put 3 teams in the final four just to piss off the media.

Few people dispute that K3 is a good coach. The issues, however, that led to his replacement are deeper than just this year. Those issues have been adequately discussed here; no need to repeat them, even if you disagree strenuously. Furthermore, its not just a handful of posters here who believe a change was important to the progress of the program. The powers that be made these changes based on many factors. And it’s history now. K3 can prove elsewhere that he was unfairly dismissed by Utah. Most of us here appreciate K3, how he ran a clean program and for being a great guy. And most of us are genuinely conflicted about it. Yet I believe Utah will be better for it.

Agreed with most of what you wrote, but disagree (vehemently) that Larry should have remained coach. Yes, Utah fan’s expectations are out of whack with reality; but I don’t think missing the tournament for the past five years (by a large margin) is really the ceiling for Utah basketball.

Good for the Pac-12 (I guess)! But the conference’s success does not prove Larry deserved to stay; if it did, then what are we to make of the years in which Larry (again) badly missed the NCAA tourney AND the pac-12 was awful in the NCAAs? Does that mean he was actually a worse coach than we all suspected?

No. I think most of us have had him pegged as a good guy, mediocre coach for some time, regardless of how the top of the conference performs in March.

Sounds a lot like the whining and complaining when McBride was let go. Coach K arrived with nothing and left with a solid infrastructure for the next guy; just like McBride did. Time to enjoy the ride to the next level. Buckle up!

And he was being paid amongst the highest 15 coaches, so performance didn’t match. If he was making 1-2M, maybe it’s a different conversation, but still one about ‘what is the next step for the program?’ I understand things changed with some health issues and coaching anywhere for 10 years can be a long time. With lots of transfers/culture fit issues/competition with cheaters it’s all tough, but I wish K the best and lest see what Smith can do.

Halftime. OSU getting worked by Houston 34-17.

OSU rallied to tie! But collapsed in the last 2 minutes and lose 67-61.

If the Zags, Baylor, and Meat Chicken all advance to the Final 4 watch the committee try to say “see, we got it right”

you are down by 4 1:07 left on the clock . Do you

a) drive to the basket and try for two or an and1
b) shoot an off balance three pointer.

Just an amazing run by Oregon State. Won 7 season-extending games in a row in Vegas and Indianapolis. Not bad for team picked to finish dead last. Wouldn’t mind seeing Houston win this whole thing. They had such amazing teams in the 80s and came just a bit short a few times of cutting down the nets.

Helps ratings a bit that there wasn’t a tourney last year.

I’m quite pleased that with a few of the ‘blue bloods’ missing from the field and a few others exiting early that the ratings have done so well. But maybe there are just a lot of people like me who like seeing teams like Oral Roberts, Ohio, Oregon State, etc., perform the way they have.

Be honest. You just like teams beginning with the letter O.

I’m happy for Kelvin Sampson, once banished from college basketball for telephoning recruits too many times. People don’t believe in redemption anymore, but we should.

Indeed I’ve pretty much watched every day of this tourney from beginning to end and will continue through tonight and the final four weekend.

I pretty much haven’t watched any of the college football playoffs for several years. They need to push it to 8 teams and get some new faces for me and many others to have any interest.

But weren’t prior Sweet 16s on Thu/Fri - this year they were Sat/Sun? I still can believe numbers are up with people working from home, but weekends are always going to fair better than weekdays that people had to take off an afternoon for (for 2 games). For weekdays, I know some people that took time off, but this year, I knew a ton more that were taking calls/meetings with the games on mute since they were at home already.

I wouldn’t say we are boring. In fact, we are more exciting to watch as our offense has evolved. I understand it’s boring to see the Patriots or Brady win it over and over. You just want more parity. As do I. I want 16 teams with every conference champ.

The only way you can say we were boring is because Waddle got injured early and we lacked our full potential this season:

Nah, they’re a Texas team.
