Do I suffer through the rest of August, or do I spend the money and? Nevermind. I’m just going to suffer.
Yikes! That is unfortunate timing. ![]()
I used to have a great AC guy, who more than once turned what I was sure was a huge repair bill into a much smaller one, but he retired and moved out of state a few years ago. If I can get ahold of him and get a recommendation, I’ll pass it along.
You would be my hero!
We’ve used Black Diamond Experts for our last several repairs (including a full AC/Furnace replacement last year) and they’ve been really great. Would definitely recommend them.
The only place I’ll absolutely warn you against is Action Plumbing. They are complete and total bullsh*t scam artists. The last time we had them out to bid on something, their rep told me that my A/C unit was pushing poisonous gas into my house (“the same stuff that was used to kill people in World War 1!”) and that I needed to shut it off immediately and install a completely brand new system (for $30K+) or we were all going to LITERALLY DIE. They’re clowns.
What is it doing? It may not be that bad of a fix.
It’s not blowing cool air.
Are you in Weber or Davis County? I’d have a name for you who’s done multiple furnaces and ACs for us. He only does stuff in SL County for us because we’ve been such good customers.
Weber…and I’ve got an appt with Black Diamond today. I can’t bear to see my critters suffer.
Glad you got somebody to help. Often when it stops out of the blue like it did for you to capacitor has gone out - which is a fairly easy fix and shouldn’t cost to much. Hope it is that.
I was gonna say try Harvey Heating and AC, but it looks like you got it handled.
Mustard gas thru the AC? Glad the Fritz’s didn’t figure that out at the time or else we would have lost the war.

Thinking about that some more, that comment from Action seems worth a call to the Department of Business Regulation.
After a day of reaching out to him (at his apparently old phone number) and through other common acquaintances, I was not able to reach him for a reference. I’ll keep trying an let you know if I reach him, but I’m hoping that your visit with the other vendor, and Rocker’s optimistic diagnosis, has resulted in some increased comfort for you and your critters..
Hoping you get back to reasonable heat indexes soon. We have AC for our critters as well. Also hope the cost is not exorbitant.
Broken AC’s suck.
They ran behind yesterday, so they rescheduled for this morning. After working the graveyard…I’m dying over here!!!
It was the condenser!!!
So, quick and (relatively) cheap fix?
Yes! Thanks for all your moral support.
