A playoff appearance would be great, but it’s not going to happen. That effectively ended in Provo when Utah let BYU score two TDs in the final 12 minutes.
Indeed. I just cant help but come up with scenarios and hang on until its all over.
I should probably get help, lol.
Will probably be the Holiday on Jan 2. Vegas on New Years Eve is also a possibility.
Holiday on the 2nd would be ok with me, 45 minute drive !
If you’d have offered me 10-2 before the season began, I’d have jumped at it as long as one of the losses didn’t include tds.
We’ve seen enough of this team to know what would happen to us in the playoff. Let’s just send Whitt off into the sunset with a bowl win. Funny that a 10-win season in a P4 conference feels so disappointing.
We’ll swing down and pick you up in the 'Mecula.
NY Eve in Vegas will be very relaxing and tranquil, I think there’s a convention of new age relaxation gurus that will be in town.
I know we have no control over these things, but playing a 7-5 Nebraska team who came in 8th place in the B10 would be a little disappointing.
Especially when we were 15 bad minutes against TDS away from the CCG or CFP.
Other bummer is that we’ll end the season with 0 wins over ranked teams. Again, we don’t have much control over how other teams finish, but that’s somewhat disappointing.
Yeah, I think Yanni and John Tesh are Co- Headlining Snooze-A- Palooza at the MGM New Years Eve
Hotel rooms in Vegas are going to have premium prices $$$$ near New Year’s Eve
lol
Hey, isn’t Slowjamistan in that neighborhood. I’ve never actually met a Sultan.
That would be a wise diversion from watching a 5th generation rehash of the Wizard of Oz on a dome of TV screens with a bunch of 9 year old girls.
Are you Cousin Eddie in this scenario?
That depends. Does he think that Hamburger Helper is perfectly good without the meat added?
did he give all his money away to the TV preacher that was screwing a hockey player?
Who needs Hamburger Helper if you have pasta shells and New Mexico chili powder. ![]()
Drove out Thursday afternoon, got back last night. Just some thoughts on KU and the game:
- West and North sides of the stadium are new (this year). East side are previous bleacher stands. Sounds like they are pushing to finish the project in phases, but might not have the money yet. Pushing for top 25 facilities and near best in Big 12.
- Nice hill with bell tower behind stadium. Drum line and band did some stuff pregame that was nice.
- Tailgating was weak, but even with a ‘sold-out’ game, only half full (if that) due to day after Thanksgiving. We could have got in for $6, but splurged for $25 tickets on the 10-yd line, row 15 ;).
- A10 Warthog flyover was cool. Such a cool plane. Sad they are retiring it, nothing like it to replace it. 2 of the pilots were KU alumn, 1 from 1994 or something and retiring really soon.
- New part of the stadium was nice - seat backs, decent food options, bathrooms went fast (bleacher side is still troughs). Men’s line was longer than women’s line.
- KU fans were not sad to see Jalen Daniels finish his career. Flashes of brilliance, bonehead mistakes, injuries. They were calling for the coaches too on stupid play calling or getting caught off guard when we went for it on 4th.
- Big12 refs may rival PAC12 refs (some are the same). Holy crap, so many reviews. And they take forever.
- Fans not happy with the forward progress call negating the strip fumble. But the whistle blew.
- Fans happy with the DD (edit: probably Byrd, but qb nonetheless) strip fumble. Refs should’ve called forward progress on that one, but maybe were biased by the previous one. Good on them for standing him up and getting their hands in.
- Buchanan ‘non-catch’ looked like obvious no catch so fans were pissed. But review (on the big screen) made them think he either had possession with his foot down or that his elbow was inbounds. Surprised it wasn’t overturned, but if they had called it a catch, probably also would have been upheld.
- Fans obviously not happy with JD being a ball short of the goal-line, but they got to celebrate twice.
- Taking time for Big12 to review TDs can be done so much more quickly. Refs holding up the PAT is dumb.
- What ticked me off is they would take forever to review, then a play would run, punt, then a 3:30 TV timeout (used to be 3:00!). After INT, you almost forgot what happened before the momentum was totally sucked out. I even ran to the bathroom one tv timeout.
- Utah had low energy until 4th quarter. Just seemed to be trying stuff but just not pushing real hard
- Def didn’t have the A-gap thing fixed, at least at first
- Def came up big on the INTs though.
- Single shirtless guy got it going in the 1st quarter (student section was really sparse) - got some momentum until disbanding at halftime. Weird 50 year old dude by me got excited every time someone joined “yeah, we have 4! take it off!”
- With my son as witness, when Utah got to the 30 down 14-10, I said “just punch it in here, don’t get into the red zone” and DD heard me and passed it into the end zone
- With my son as witness, KU had done nothing on 1st and 2nd (runs) and I said “free JD! Pick-6 right here” and we got the pick-6. You are welcome.
- Surprised to not see Byrd much. Bray was not in too much. Saw Barton on offense a couple plays.
- Did NJ get hurt? I thought I saw #3 (could have been someone else) on the cart coming from home locker room (xrays?) to visitor locker room - appeared to be a leg injury
- Had to wait until Q4 to not be nervous. Trading TDs wasn’t good, but we closed it out and traffic was light from many leaving early.
- Sat next to the KU long snapper’s parents (senior day). Never have paid attention to snaps as much as I have. He had one low punt snap his mother cursed about, but otherwise, he did ok

- Was just above freezing. Pretty cold even with 5 layers, but we managed.
- 8 hour drive across Kansas might rival I-80 in Wyoming for being boring. Most of it was at night though - got a great sunset Thu night.
- Was hoping for some KC BBQ, but places were closed for Black Friday. Darn.
Those are my ramblings.
I thought that was Bird. But memory fails me at times.
Maybe (probably). Without the announcers, I can’t keep track of all the personnel. One thing I have a hard time with in person (maybe I need to listen to a streaming feed).
1st, KC BBQ is really good if you can get some, find one of the hole in the wall joints.
2nd, driving across Kansas sucks because it is so boring. At least it has more (if only just) terrain variation than Nebraska.
I once drove from here to Cincinnati, Ohio. Let me tell you, driving on I-80 across Wyoming, then Nebraska, and then Iowa: brutal.
