Lovering 4-10 at the lineābut 2 of the 4 he banked in.
painful to watch. They won by 13 but shot just over 50% at the lineāso it should have been a 20+ point blowout.
Colorado is really bad. They must have spent all their NIL on Deion & his sons.
It was an ugly win. Against an even slightly better opponent, we wouldāve gotten run out of our own gym. At this point of the season, what we see is what we have. We can hope they will find ways to improve an minimize their deficiencies, but itās doubtful.
On to the next one.
Weāve already won more conference games than I thought we would. And we could conceivably win 2 or 3 more.
Not a rousing success, but better than predicted, which was number 16
Not to be a Dougie Downer, but this team is hard to watch. No discipline, sloppy ball handling, poor free throw shooting, canāt finish fast breaks, turnovers, and most of all, very unathletic compared to other P4 teams.
We may lose the last nine games of the year unless we miraculously beat West Virginia or Arizona State at home.
I agree. They have won more B12 games than I expected but there are just so many glaring coaching deficiencies. The team isnāt very talented but they could be coached up to eliminate most of their mistakes, but that isnāt happening.
Im not betting on it, but I wouldnāt be surprised if we lose out. We very well might. At any rate, that was the most uninspiring win I can remember in quite some time and there is almost nothing right about this program right now.
I am generally a āhold on, we cant fire the coach until hes got 1 year leftā but this offseason could get very interesting.
There is a term that describes this teamā¦Phoning it in.
Thinking more about this, I feel like its either going to be eat the buyout and wish craig well or pull kind of a punk move and take away all of his resources so we essentially become colorado next year and then fire him in a year. Either way, we arent going anywhere until the program is funded better (not that i think craig is innocent by a long shot).
I think with more NIL money, Craig could be a .500 coach in the B-12. Heās definitely not Majerus, but Big Rick would fail in this era of college basketball. Smith was successful at USU because heās a pretty good coach - definitely a players coach - and he had two NBA players (Merrill and Queta).
Iām with UteBrave - Iām impressed weāve gotten to 5 wins, but we also have seniors who understand the game and have heart.
I sat near the Madsen brothersā mom last night. She drives an RV to every single game. She should be proud, I think both of them are going to be successful after basketball.
I talked to them at Fanfest. Great young men. They were very genuine.
Why are you selling us short? We have 5 wins in B12 at 5-6, and are tied for 8th.
I guess more NIL money would make a difference. Even if it wonāt, I would like a chance to be disappointed by its failure.
That said, the free throw shooting is unacceptable, and Iām always told by basketball people in the know that free-throw shooting is all about the coaching. I donāt know if thatās true, but if it is, Craig has a lot of explaining to do. I think the same can be said of the turnovers and sloppy play. Then again, maybe the turnovers are a function of our players not being as quick as their opponents. But not being quick does not excuse dumb decisions with the ball.
Not a lot to be really happy about in this yearās Utes.
I did better in Math that uses letters, greek letters and sideways 8s. Not actually good, just better.
(Too many trips to the principals office in the arithmetic years, never learned finger math. I thought girls who were calculating on their fingers were having some kind of demonic fit.)
So Utah plays today against a team that has struggled in conference play but is still a pretty good squad. And the game is on the road, so I expect about 30% shooting from the floor, 50% shooting from the line, and 18 turnovers. Hopefully Utah keeps it within 15 points.
What Id give to have an atmosphere like West Virginia had this afternoon. Thats a mediocre team hosting a mediocre team and the crowd made it feel like a game that mattered. We dont approach that in any non byu game.
Yep. Under 4 left, Utah cuts it to 5. WV hits a 3, gets the crowd back into it, and rolls the redt of the way. Sigh.
With the exception of Houston defeating CU, Every Big 12 visiting team lost today. This includes Kansas losing to KState and BYU losing by 18 to a Cincinnati team they beat by 24 a couple of games ago.
Doesnāt that just prove that some things never change? Isnāt that just college basketball?
In the same way we never expected to win at New Mexico, and rarely at Wyoming, during the Majerus years, regardless of who was coaching, or who was playing?
And Logan and Provo were always dog fights?
Thatās a good point. Even during the golden years of 1991ā2005, Utah lost at UNM 10 or 11 times. They lost at Wyoming a handful of times. I remember the Utes having some trouble at Colorado St. too. And yeah, Utah lost at BYU six times during this era.
