D-I College football thread, non-Utah edition

FSU is 0-fer the conference so far this year. They may magically improve, but I really doubt that they’ll win the ACC with this start in conference.

I think Mike Norvell is finding the fans in Tallahassee are a bit more intense than the Sun Devil coeds. Jimbo was the heir apparent to Bobby Bowden, and he bolted as soon as the A&M job opened up.

A very modest mitigating aspect? Billy Napier’s hotseat may be even hotter in Gainesville.

Absolute correct take.

They will weirdly need a ton of help. The conference is very much bottom tier.

Good point - I don’t even pay enough attention to the ACC to realize that they started the season with conference games. Bwahahaha, even better.

“According to the report, the league’s investigation into the incident came to an end when Buffaloes ultimately declined to provide evidence for their accusations.”

Oops.

Since their Governor added money to sue the NCAA they are 0-3. Florida Government taking Ls at the same time adds to the schadenfreude

But they are doing it wearing platform loafers.

It’s like footwear went back to the 1970’s and disco. :joy:

Just another reason why Floridians never get to go to The Good Place.

You would certainly be correct if the purpose of the polls were to maximize accuracy. unfortunately, the real purpose of the polls is to attract attention- and they are very successful at doing that.

The good news is that the CFP ranking took your advice and does not start until a body of evidence is available.

…and the more important poll for week 1.

To be fair to Billy I think his team has less talent than Miami. FSU was clearly the better roster on paper.

Very interesting read. I am concerned that Utah does not have a sufficient number of wealthy alums or fans invested in athletic success to compete with what is described in this article about SMU.

I have thought the same thing. Even at BYU, you’ve now got hotshot Ryan Smith buying the basketball program, and his money is attracting four- and five-star recruits. Let’s hope he doesn’t start doing that with the football team.

HMm… I wonder if I misunderstand, or if I missed some big detail… How exactly has that program been bought? Thanks in advance for clarification.

I’m betting about 900 million dollars against Colorado at this time.
