Ouch. Wonder if Fisch knew, or had an inkling of the result.

Deficits…Pay for Play scandal…it seems the Gumby’s might be in for an overhaul of their athletic department.

This can’t be good for their overall competitiveness short and long term.

From a comment in the Athletic article.

Emeritus UA Professor here and many things have contributed to the $240 million USD especially the acquisition of a defunct internet university that scammed its students to the point the US Department of Education wants $75 million back from defunct student loans! Robbins is not named “Front Row Robby” for nothing because he loves his sports at the cost of neglecting the academic/research missions of the University. There will be sports cut as do we really need beach volleyball in the Big 12 conference?

D-III will possibly expand the playoff bracket to 40 teams next season.

Linfield, St. John’s, and Whitewater would have made the cut this year, if the number had been 40.

Yup…just look at the PAC12 demise. University presidents are typical corporate leaders. Many are not good at their jobs. Having been in many boardrooms and in the investment world for many years, I find much of their behavior despicable.

What are some aspects of their behaviour that you find despicable?

Without going into details. Here are a few glaring issues I have seen.

  • Artificially inflated “market rate” compensation
  • Compensation and bonus programs skewed toward leadership
  • Accountability deflection
  • Pandering to “shareholders” and not focusing on stakeholders
  • Short-term, parochial decisions to generate personal gains

Nailed it. On all counts.

Welcome to what I call “Walking Dead Syndrome.” It’s a place where an organization is so inward looking, customer deaf, and buying its own hype that it is in reality “Dead,” it just hasn’t figured it out yet.

And Tennessee is now being investigated over NIL:

SMH, didn’t they just go through a major investigation over Pruitt? Seems that UT boosters need to get their collective ■■■■ together.

Pruitt wasn’t the issue it may seem.

Yeah, so it seem ex post facto.

If the Justice and Commerce Departments had any hutzpah, they would launch an antitrust / corruption investigation against the NCAA and the FBS Conferences.

Something smells worse than the sargassum on the beaches here.
