COVID-19 Discussion (No Politics)

That is one funny big blank square! Thanks!

More dog-COVID humor, for those who are working from home and have dogs.

OK, I confess I haven’t been washing my wrists. I will do better now.

LDS Wards I have been in have the boys use packaged sani-wipes on their hands before breaking the bread. It tends to keep mortality rates low.

Hoping this pans out.

All the more reason not to make a donation.

Yes, but they’ll get an infusion from the Fed. I don’t how much mortgages get bundled into larger investment vehicles, ala 2008, but we’ll be issuing a lot more T-Bills to finance all this.

“Extraordinary times, extraordinary measures”

As long as the equities markets are depressed, there will be buyers for near-zero returns on Treasury bills - gotta park your money somewhere - but as the economy starts to pick up, and markets rebound, the pressure will be to make T-Bills more attractive to buy, ie, the rates have to elevate a little (unless the Fed does another round of QE, waving the magic wand only they control).

The dollar is the unquestioned global currency, but you have to kind of wonder if we seriously bungle the handling of CV, if it flares up again, but China is able to effectively squelch their problem… we might start to move more toward a multi-polar international currency world. Which would seriously erode our ability in the future to simply issue debt everyone always gobbles up.

The dollar has elevated in value over all this - the exact problem the President has tried to reverse to make US manufacturing more competitive. (We haven’t heard a lot about that recently, as US mfg has been in a recession for about 6 months or so.)

Ben McAdams representative from Utah was just on CNN. He’s tested positive and is in his 7th day of isolation. He’s 45 years old with no other health conditions. He said he’s as sick as he’s ever been. High fever, coughing, shortness of breath and winded. His doctor said if it worsens he’ll have to be hospitalized.

The dollar going up (and foreign currency dropping) hurts my company’s bottom line. Our customer maintenance contracts are generally based on the country the customer is based in (Canadian Dollar, Aussie dollar, Euro, British Pound, etc). So when dollar is way up, we find it hard to meet our financial targets.

Vastly differently…100% completely different…and it’s all completely random, no patterns, nothing.

So, do you want the weird al tin foil hat gif or should I put up the x-files theme song? Since you are a returning customer to Ironman’s Bizarre Bazarr of Curious Clapbacks, I figure I would give you a choice.

Looks like at-home COVID-19 tests are not kosher yet.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update: FDA Alerts Consumers About Unauthorized Fraudulent COVID-19 Test Kits

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is actively and aggressively monitoring the market for any firms marketing products with fraudulent coronavirus (COVID-19) diagnostic, prevention and treatment claims as part of our ongoing efforts to protect public health during this pandemic. As a result of these activities, the agency is beginning to see unauthorized fraudulent test kits that are being marketed to test for COVID-19 in the home.

We want to alert the American public that, at this time, the FDA has not authorized any test that is available to purchase for testing yourself at home for COVID-19. The FDA sees the public health value in expanding the availability of COVID-19 testing through safe and accurate tests that may include home collection, and we are actively working with test developers in this space.

Fraudulent health claims, tests, and products can pose serious health risks. They may keep some patients from seeking care or delay necessary medical treatment. The FDA reminds consumers to follow the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines and speak to your medical provider if you have symptoms of COVID-19. Your medical provider will advise you about whether you should get tested and the process for being tested with an appropriate test.

The FDA will take appropriate action to protect consumers from bad actors who take advantage of a crisis to deceive the public by marketing tests that pose risks to patient health. This may include issuing warning letters, seizures or injunctions. We have already identified and issued warning letters to companies found selling and promoting fraudulent items, and we expect additional such actions will be forthcoming. Additionally, we are stepping up enforcement at ports of entry, including International Mail Facilities, to ensure these fraudulent products that originate outside the country do not enter through our borders.

If you are aware of fraudulent test kits for COVID-19, please report them to the FDA. We will continue to aggressively pursue those who place the public health at risk and hold bad actors accountable.

As a reminder, the President’s Coronavirus Guidelines for America details simple actions we can take as individuals and families to #SlowTheSpread of coronavirus.

The FDA, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, protects the public health by assuring the safety, effectiveness, and security of human and veterinary drugs, vaccines and other biological products for human use, and medical devices. The agency also is responsible for the safety and security of our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, dietary supplements, products that give off electronic radiation, and for regulating tobacco products.

Some people get a severe “cytokine storm” reaction and some have milder symptoms. It’s more deadly for elderly but many younger and middle-aged people require hospitalization.

Scientists are working to understand why some people suffer more from the virus than others. It is also unclear why the new coronavirus—like its cousins SARS and MERS—appears to be more deadly than other coronaviruses that regularly circulate among people each winter and typically cause cold symptoms. “I think it’s going to take a really, really long time to understand the mechanistic, biological basis of why some people get sicker than others,” says Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.

Nothing but love for Ben and his family.

What BHO did was good, no doubt. The time period up to March '13 was the v shaped recession from the banking crisis. After that is a good job pulling back to what would be the long term trend if you were to show many years prior. But after the recovery that ended in '13 it became more difficult to push to ever higher levels. One could say the longer you maintain a bull market the more difficult. Both move the economy forward. Myself, I don’t think you can hang the banking crisis on GWB and you can’t hang the Covid-19 on Trump.
Trump does have the advantage any president has if he does well to navigate a crisis so his legacy is directly in front of him. Like him or not most everyone is pulling for success vs Covid-19. Next in front of all of us is the eventual debate where we balance public health risk against a necessity to maintain a working economy. It will be scary to see leaders take position in that debate. I think the WSJ may have started the discussion.

Edit: goodness, this was a reply to a post about 70 spots above…

Right there with you, brother. If you hear a ‘Go Utes’ in the re-education camp…

I kid, I kid. Keep yer shorts on uf.n.
