Aren’t fries potato? Those are skinny. ![]()
Dear Diary,
I went to the gym today with newly inspired confidence as I’ve lost 9 pounds since December 27th. I attacked my exercises with vigor. I was walking with my shoulders back and abs under flab kinda sucked in. My mood was good! Until I saw my reflection in the mirror. What purpose does it serve when the person looking back is a carnival freak?!? I demand new mirrors!! For that I walked an extra mile on the treadmill and burned an extra 100 calories. Take that you unsightly bulge!
Sigh…I fell off the treadmill too, but that’s a story for another day. Let’s get out there and fight the good fight!!
I am always shocked at that old guy in the mirror.
The mirror test…I gave it up for the how I am feeling test. If my energy is good, and I am feeling motivated to get stuff done, it’s a win.
If you have to have a mirror, you may as well go trendy, I guess. ![]()
So I’m gonna pay that much money and it’s still not gonna lie to me? Pffft.
Like @Greginslc said, I gave up on the mirror test. It doesn’t help my mood. I do go by my energy levels and how well my clothes fit. It’s amazing how things change from day to day or week to week.
Well now I have a target in place. I want to be 15 lb lighter by the first week of July because I just signed up for a 6 day/5 night bike tour of Tuscany. Of course, the way they feed you on these trips, I could get 10 of it back in spite of riding every day.
Sustenance: white basmati rice, tempeh, kale, nutritional yeast, olive oli, ethiopian coffee, and homebrew (lots of homebrew)
Activity: standing at the bar while watching sports, listening to old-timey music on the radio, homebrew (lots of homebrew)
My 30ish son leans (not religiously) toward a Vegan diet, and is always trying to convince me that I should use tempeh as the protein source more in mine. The problem is, that no matter how much I’ve made my diet over, I’m still pretty old school and like to have an animal protein source at the center of my dinner meal most days.
After reading your post, I read a bit about tempeh, and have decided to buy some and try it - maybe, perhaps, just possibly, you can teach an old dog new tricks, we’ll see…
I’ve tried to like tempeh but it just never worked for me. I like tofu and other meat substitutes a lot though.
Tempeh isn’t bad. I prefer its texture to tofu, but for the most part give me animal protein. I’ve used tempeh in some soups. Hmm, may do so again: miso, ramen, tempeh with peas or similar texture veg.
I use tofu in my hot and sour soup.
I’m pretty strict vegan unless traveling outside of the US/Canada and there is a specialty of the region that is worth breaking my rules for such as carbonara in Roma. (I do believe most ingredients in Europe, at lease in Spain/France/Italy are far superior to the factory farmed ingredients we get in the US). Tempeh is great because it is fermented, so good for gut health and it has a ton of protein. But as with others I have a harder time eating it because I don’t love the texture. Tofu is a bit of a blank canvas though. For those that don’t like it out of the package, try pressing it, the longer the better. Makes a world of difference. Or pressing, then freezing (can be done multiple times) then marinating. You wouldn’t believe the texture also. You can slice, dehydrate and marinate after too to change the texture. If anyone ever wants recipes/advice on eating vegan, just holler. I’ve been at it almost 20 years.
Just before the stroke and just after sweating to some classic disco today. 14 months makes a huge difference. No treadmills were harmed today.
Edited to point out that’s Tavion Thomas in the 1st picture…I hope he’s doing well.
I’m curious what everyone here thinks of the HAES (health at every size) approach, or anything related to that.
Hmmm. Haven’t read it, but it would make sense your body would tell you when it feels best.
What it basically means is that you can be “healthy” even if you’re obese. It’s B.S. I’m just fascinated by the fat acceptance movement.
I understand where you’re coming from, but I’ve seen folks whose body types will never be the perfect athletic thin bodies. However how hard they work out and diet, their body says NO. But I’m not saying fat acceptance is the same thing.
Typing on a phone sucks.
@UteBrave were you leaving the bottom of North Canyon this morning about 9:00 am?
I was on my bike and suffering from O2 deprivation form the climb.
13 pounds since 12/27/2023 using diet and exercise. The carnival mirrors are not improving. My mom noticed I’m losing my boobs. Reminds me of the Grandma in Sixteen Candles.
