Class of 22 Utah Football Recruits

Brandon is 6’-1", 170 pounds. Mountain Home has an US Airforce base nearby, wonder if his parents are military. Could find no mention of his football playing. He is not listed in the 247Sports database.

Would it be fair to assume all these late signees are PWO?

Many, but not all. Some might be mission kids who will take a scholarship when they return. ALSO it’s clear the Utes have at least 2 more scholarships available and are working the portal hard in search of a CB and a WR.

The ASU meltdown continues. WR Ricky Pearsall, their best receiver, and consensus AA LB Eric Gentry are now available through the transfer portal.

Ah, that’s a shame.

So, when does the pool start for the bets on when Herm gets rolled?

Since they are the team in the south that I find most reprehensible, I’m hoping they give him a lifetime contract

Utes have offered 2022 JUCO DB Jadon Pearson. I suppose their evaluation is he’s better than what’s available in the portal.

New commit. Kolby Howard, a 2022 TE from Visalia, CA. Not listed as a scholarship player on Utezone, so I assume he is a PWO.

Welcome Kolby!

Howard to Howard. Look forward to that day. Kolby has the right size to be a very good TE if he is also quick, a blocker, has secure hands, and can get up to speed quickly.

Peppins ended up at Grambling. Best of luck to him.

Grad transfer Kyle Petrucci (from Stanford) has been forced to medically retire from football. This one hurts. He was scheduled to start for the Utes at long snapper this year.

Best of luck to him. Health, as I’ve learned the hard way over the last 20 years, is too important to mess around with, some hobbies be damned.

Another 2022 football commit:

Jadon Pearson, a JUCO all-American S from CA.

Another JUCO football commit. Tall WR Luca Caldarella out of CA. He has 3 years of elgibility left. Utes and ASU were his finalists.

Saw an “interesting” comment on FB. It said that they thought we were above going after JUCO’s and should be concentrating on the portal and high schools. My opinion is that I don’t really care where we get a player if he can play.

It seems like it’s been a while since we’ve gone after this many JC players but I think the coaches must believe these JC players are better than anything left in the portal.

Whoever made that comment is misguided.

At this point in the cycle there aren’t any high level HS kids to recruit unless a kid reclassifies OR suddenly gets eligible and surprises everyone.

As UteBrave said, the coaches are surely aware of the kids in the portal and have decided these JUCO kids are a better fit to our needs.

AND this is the year to recruit JUCO kids. The knock on JUCO kids has been they come with only 2 years of eligbility, and it takes them a while to acclimate. Maybe they play special teams right away, but they rarely compete for a starting spot until late in their junior year. Even if they are good they end up a 1 year starter, much like a grad transfer.

BUT this year is special because the covid year doen’t count against eligibility. Many of these kids have played 2 years, and still have 3 years left! They might end up as 2 year starters. This is the year to pick up a couple more JUCO’s than normal, and that’s what the coaches are doing.

Agree. I was being unusually nice (for me) by saying “interesting”.

AH! I didn’t know you could be that subtle. My bad.
