BYU QB gone

Looks like BYU’s QB is out. Crazy situation. If this young lady was indeed victimized, she deserves justice.

This is the important part. Whether he stays or goes is of no consequence, other than he should face consequences if her allegations are true.

Edit to add: It says there would be a 7 game suspension. I wonder which 7 games?

Hopefully this gets to a judge sooner than later, for all involved.

So basically the dude played the entire 2024 seson after having broken the Honor Code. Nice. BYU should voluntarily vacate its 2024 wins.

The attorneys suing Retzlaff are big time. They have multiple big verdicts.

He has more than just honor code problems.

There is one big upside to all this:

The cringey “BYJew” meme and associated Star of David helmet logo will relegate itself to the dustbin of history, and may not even make an appearance at yard sales in Utah County.. The universe will issue a sigh of relief that just might be detectable by astro physicists.

The first game, but 7 times.

Who are these attorneys? I can’t find mention of them anywhere.

Gotta tell you, as a BYU fan, all the jewish people i know here in california loved it. Manischewitz apparently did too. It’s a bummer he didn’t keep the rules (which now that the lawsuit is dropped appears to be the extent of it) but it was fun for a lot of people while it was happening.

BYU appears to have handled it perfectly well.

The context was post Hamas attack so I get it. Not sure it’s going to age well, though.

“Hey dad, whatever happened to the BYJew quarterback we had?”

Jewish people’s strong cultural identity and the perceived dangers associated with it were incredibly strong prior to Oct 7 and will be incredibly strong after. Of course BYU fans aren’t going to be freely calling someone a “jew” as its not a cosmopolitan thing to do - it appears to me it was developed by local jewish leaders in the spirit of mutual religious understanding. It was just fun for us and it was a national story, I agree it is now tainted not because of anything inherently “weird” about it but just because of the Retzlaff’s own choices and potentially some bad luck.

What was the “bad luck”?

The “potential bad luck” i’m referring to is if he was falsely accused of assault - that could have had an effect on the course of events.

I agree with just about everything you said. I think I remember reading it was a local Rabbi who came up with the term in a light-hearted way, in contrast to how events in '23 were being viewed elsewhere.

Nerd alert - the history of antisemitism and Mideast issues here in the US and around the world is fascinating, the Jewish community is amazingly diverse and opinionated on a great number of topics. I have some family who are Jewish, but they mostly complain about traffic in LA.

One of my sons is dating a young lady from Colombia (the country, not the University) who was a nanny for a family in NJ who happened to be from Iran. Very moderate folks, no hijabs, their only (very gentle) pushback was educating her that Iranians are not Arabs. Otherwise, she learned some Farsi, participated in family traditions, etc. Typical family stuff, good folks.

Yesterday we had a long discussion about the Mideast, the issues, the history, the religions, the languages & distinctions, the Islamic world from Morocco to Malaysia, etc.

It makes the history of Utah seem like Cat in the Hat, by comparision. We have our gripes about the Legislature, etc, but things here are much simpler.

Saw this on FB. Don’t have a link, but apparently some of the byu-provo fans believe that Utah sent down one of their co-eds to seduce Retzlaff. It was all a set up. smh
