Where was this in 1976?
Waiting for the technology to make the costs contained and sustainable.
Awesome. Those of us who have Utah degrees from a few years ago are watching those degrees steadily increase in value.
Where can I cash in that value and put it into some index funds?
WOW… My other ALma Mater (AA Italian Studies 1991) University of LaVerne, California is ranked even higher!
It’s intangible for graduates of a certain age… But we can walk around with our noses held a little higher up in the air.
More detail. Note that the two Brainiac schools of the PAC-12 were the top two in the West.
Top Public and Private Colleges in the Western U.S.
The University of Utah and Stanford University head these lists from the WSJ/College Pulse rankings
The University of Utah is the highest-ranked public college in the West and Stanford University is the region’s top private school, according to the WSJ/College Pulse 2024 Best Colleges in the U.S. ranking.
The University of California, Berkeley, and California State University, Northridge rank second and third among public schools in the West, and Stanford is followed by Claremont McKenna College and the California Institute of Technology among Western private colleges.
Schools’ overall scores in the WSJ/College Pulse ranking are based on three factors: Student outcomes—including measures of graduation rates, graduates’ salaries and how those salaries offset the cost of attaining an undergraduate degree at each school—account for 70% of the overall score. The learning environment—including students’ evaluations of their school’s learning facilities and learning opportunities and how well it prepares them for a career, as well as how strongly they would recommend the school—accounts for 20%. And the diversity of a school’s students and faculty accounts for 10%.
Critically, our ranking emphasizes how much each school boosts outcomes beyond what would be expected for its students. A complete explanation of the methodology accompanies the full overall ranking table, as well as separate rankings for Student Experience, Salary Impact and Social Mobility, all at wsj.com/collegerankings.
Among Western public colleges, Utah is ranked No. 43 overall among all colleges nationwide, UC Berkeley is No. 51 and Cal State Northridge is No. 53. The top 10 public colleges in the West include five schools in the California State University system and three in the University of California system.
Two of the region’s private schools are among the top 10 colleges in the country, with Stanford ranked fourth in the nation and Claremont McKenna ninth. Two more Western private schools are in the top 20 colleges nationwide—Caltech at No. 18 and Brigham Young University at No. 20.
You can see the top public and private schools in the Northeast here; in the weeks ahead we’ll look at the top public and private colleges in the South and Midwest. For more on Western colleges, you can see the region’s top small, midsize and large colleges here, and future installments of this series will focus on the top schools for diversity in the West, its top liberal-arts colleges and the schools in the region most highly recommended by their students.

Only because they are in the Pac 12.
No doubt, that was what pushed the U over the edge to academic greatness.
I do like our athletes’ high graduation rate.
who knows if this will happen, …

Several years ago I told Ruth Watkins that it would be unlikely that my wife and I would support the athletics program to the level we do if this weren’t the case. She said she was glad to hear that.
If it’s Biden and Trump…there will be no Presidential debates.
If it’s Biden and Trump, and there are Presidential debates, they will be the most frightening of any debates in any of our lifetimes.
If it’s Trump and anyone, it would be frightening. Also unwatchable, because no one would ever be able to finish a sentence.
Very true, and while I meant to complain about Biden’s age with my post, I’ll still vote for him in a heartbeat, and even with his decline due to aging, he’s a better president than many we’ve had and an infinitely better president and human being than TFG.
Guys, I agree with the posts about the candidates but let’s stick with the “Bravo U .of U” theme. I say this with love in my heart.
If it’s between the U and TDS, then there’s no debate.
But if it wasn’t for joining the PAC 12….
