Are college sports as we know them now "over?"

Quinny has not been at championship form this year. I fear that they will stumble in the big dance. But, I remain optimistic, nonetheless.

D-I College Hockey is quite enjoyable, especially matches among the elite teams. It is also an interesting subset of universities. For several, Ice Hockey is their only D-I sport.

Golden Gophers ready to make another run at the Frozen Four which is being held in St. Paul—that will be a really hard ticket to find—

Because last week Minnesota High School Hockey Championship Game had over 20,000 people in the stands.

A crazy hockey town—great place to watch a game.

Guys, I hate to say this, but this thread is not about the goings-on in small college sports. It’s about the impact of money and television (but I repeat myself) on big-time college sports.

It’s all college sports to me, but I respect your space. If a tight-end flaps his wings at Mount Union…

Just know that this year Quinnipiac is very good, as are Boston U and Boston College. That gets you most of the way. The Big 10 actually is a pretty strong hockey league with Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin fielding strong teams most years.

My alma mater in Canada the University of Alberta is the top University hockey program in Canada. At one time they used to regularly play some non conference games against some of the top NCAA hockey teams like Michigan, UNH and Denver. It has been a while since I paid close attention to NCAA hockey though.

Sadly Alberta got knocked out of the Canada West semi finals this year by a tough UBC Thunderbird team. UofA’s record 16 National Championships is in no danger anytime soon as the next on the list - U of Toronto has 10.

Alberta has also appeared in 24 championship finals and has won 55 conference championships including a stint from 2000-2020 where they won 16 of 20.

I don’t like hockey. I say this with love in my heart. :grinning:

I used to not like hockey…then I watched the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. The “Miracle on Ice” will always be one of my greatest sports memories ever.

Hockey is great to watch in person, but difficult on TV
